We are from France, and here, there is no gigs

Only the bigest ones, or metal's ones....

Prog is no important, except MAGMA, perhaps !

A fantastic initiative. The thing is that we, as a band from relatively unknown Norway, have to fly over to almost everywhere, and so we are dependent on hiring, lending equipment where we gig. Of course mid-Europe is reachable by car, but it'll take some time to get there. To bring lots of drums and keys like Hammond, Leslie, synths, pianos etc. on an aircraft will cost, so that will probably stop many from flying abroad. However with a little coordination it should be possible to use each others stash as well. We "The Windmill", will be supporting The Watch from Italy in Oslo, Norway in June, and they fly over on their own cost, to do the Genesis-Selling England show.
Nowadays flight tickets are quite cheap, so it would be feasible to fly to different places.

This year we are concentrating on the release of our new album. Will be looking for gigs from November onwards. We are also looking to do a concert outside Madrid in September, in preparation for a concert that we plan to do in Madrid in October, to film our first DVD. We could arrange for an exchange concert in December/January, when we will do a concert for the official release of the new album.

Another thing to think about, not only gig swapping but the concept of multiple bands coming together, renting a facility (small theatres etc), and putting on the show themselves. This requires some money up front but with three or four bands splitting the costs whlie pre selling tickets to the event....

I prefer a pre sell concept any day over playing for potential door cover charges. It can be done and it can be profitable if promoted and done professionally.

I have created a whole website not only using that method but also trying to get as many bands/artists as possible from outside the US heard here in the US. I use internet radio to get them airtime and social networks to promote them. I am pushing them on local radio stations as well. Gig swapping is good but i have found there are a lot of unnecessary egos in the US that puts a crimp in that. So many turn their nose up at that because they think they are too good to do it. Musicians need to wake up though i've been in music for years as well myself. I was a pro-drummer now doing Promoting, Reviews, Scouting and its not like back in the day so new methods are required to get anywhere and gig swapping is one good platform to build on.

Had artists from OZ looking for gigs in the USA & Canada, but I'm not that sure how to advise them.
