Capricia - Fooled by the Hush

Capricia - Fooled by the Hush
Melodic Revolution Records

A double CD, the first is five songs long, and the second a 24 minute concept about 24 hours of a person’s life.  The band name (meaning “…an instrumental work with an improvisatory style and a free form”) matches the reality: a bewildering and almost confusing mashing of genres, primarily metallic, but with jazz-, symphonic-, prog-, death- and you-name-it elements. Like a kid in a sweet shop dazzled by the variety, you leave, wondering if you got the right thing out of it in the end.  By turns atmospheric or dramatic, mixing operatic female and growling male vocals, it’s almost too much to take in at first, and needs repeated listens to grasp the band’s intent.  Lots of promise and ability, if a little raw, and for me a little more care to guitar lines and sound would have lifted this one higher.  DP
