David Longdon – Wild River

www.davidlongdon.com

This album was recorded pre-Big Big Train success, but shows just how good a singer he is, and how much he brings to the BBT sound. Recorded in 2004 with various musicians collectively known as the Magic club, it also features XTC's Dave Gregory playing some guitar and Mellotron. Says Longdon: “The album is about the passing of time, love, death and the inevitable impermanence of everything. It is not a Prog album but it has elements of progressive rock within it. It's an eclectic mix and I had an interesting journey making it". Good harmonies, thoughtful and varied compositions, quite acoustic in texture with considered use of supporting instruments (e.g. mandolin, violin/strings, harmonica, percussion) and impressive vocal performances make this a notable listen.
