Power of Prog

Koi - In Tomorrow Hid Today

Progress Records

The first track of this CD sounded a bit like the now defunct Mansun taking on the current trend for navel-gazing music. This Swedish band claim influences of Porcupine Tree, Oceansize, Beardfish and Opeth – that says a lot. They are part of the ever growing genre of progressive indie rock, developing their morose and/or aggressive atmospheres, with progressive twists and turns, but focusing on emotion and sound, melody and harmony rather than self-indulgent solos. Happy with near-ten minute songs or brief snippets, they have a purpose to their music. Overall, this is an excellent debut, similar to Blueneck, and should appeal to those with a liking for crafted music of the more melancholic variety.
