This is a melodically polished but organically heavy, light and dark musical labyrinth portraying a journey into the mind. If that sounds complex, it matches the music’s glorious intricacies and tasty song structures, blending prog metal foundations with tasteful keyboard inflection and subtle post-prog and electronica elements within an invitingly deep and layered sound. Ably aided by guest vocals (Dan Tompkins - Tesseract and DC Cooper - Royal Hunt) and with Jens Bogren (Opeth) mixing and mastering, this was quite simply the best prog metal release of late 2011. Some may gripe at the slightly accented vocals (Galleon meets Aha), but I praise them for their eschewal of trademark clichéd metalhead vocals to satisfy their melodic thirst. Powerful yet haunting, symphonic and addictive, with a prediliction for progression and experimentation combined with an instinctive melodic bent, this is to be enjoyed from start to finish. DP
