Profile Information

I am the following; a: Band

Style of Prog: Neo-Prog, New Prog, Crossover Prog, Progressive Jazz/Fusion, Also a fan of other genres of music

Biography: Godsticks are a unique 3-piece progressive-rock band from South Wales, UK, combining the vocal/guitar/piano talents of Darran Charles, the bass talents of Hartke-endorsee Jason Marsh, and the expertise of long-time session-drummer Steve Roberts. Formed in 2006, their love of various musical styles including prog-rock, fusion, rock, and pop have been melded together to create their own style – one that has been described as progressive rock fused with a heavy funk.

Initially a cover band performing complex progressive music, Godsticks began to immerse themselves in writing new material and developing their own unique song formats - borne out of a desire to create song arrangements they wanted to hear, but that were never present in the music of their influences.

Already described as a ‘fresh and unique listen’, Godsticks can genuinely claim to stand out as something a little different to the rest. Whether it’s the unmistakable tone of Darran Charles’ voice, the growl of Jason Marsh’s fretless bass, or the complex grooving of Steve Roberts on drums – Godsticks are an innovative force and definitely a band to watch over the coming years.

Influences or Favorite Bands: Yes, Frank Zappa, Mike Keneally, Mike Stern, Jaco, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Bjork, Faith No More, Shaun Baxter, Rufus Wainwright.
