"Always a nerve wracking time of year having invested so much time into making the thing, comes the time when it has to be let out into the 'wild'..so be free...!"  GuyM

European gigs...

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 4:04am 0 Comments

So, the burning question is "How do you get to play gigs in Europe" (please don't say Practise!).

Many promoters are simply not even bothered to speak to you unless you have played there before. Catch 22? Times are tough!

There are currenty a lot of bands out there fighting for the same festival slots, gigs etc

So any suggested venues, promoters or friends of the family who know people in the know...please pass them along!

Self promotion - a necessary evil??

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 4:07am 0 Comments

So how do you self promote a new release without coming across as a self serving egotistical git?

A hard job IMO!

Every year I need to inform people about the new album but there is no distanced objective management function really doing that for me...so it becomes a case of "..hey I've got a new album out..".

Many bands must face this problem, alot simply hijack FACEBOOK, MYSPACE etc through their friends network...but this inevitably just p***es everyone…

Guy, that'll be my imagination then! It's a very simple motif, but as I've loved War of the Worlds for decades now it kind of pricked my attention as sounding familiar and then I wondered if there was a deliberate homage (songs about travelling between "worlds", and all that) or whether I was simply hearing patterns where there were none.

If interested, check Charlestown at ~3mins for the start of your motif (it also appears later in the track also) and then, if you have it, check War of the Worlds Epilogue, Part 1 from 36 secs and onwards until the end of the track; a similar motif to my warped ears.

I'm hearing a motif in Charlestown which is very reminiscent to one in the end track in Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds (Epilogue, Pt1) ... is this deliberate? Is there any significance? Am I just imagining it?! :D
