There's a great new app called Sound Cloud that musicians can post their songs on and people can make "timed comments" in certain parts of the tune. It's very similar to some DVD movies that have commentary that can pop up at certain times. But this allows fans to comment as well. Those of you who are musicians should definitely check this out. Supernal Endgame's beginning was in 2000, but the roots of the band go back a couple decades with John Eargle and Rob Price who have played in several bands together through the years.
John and Rob had the idea of forming a unique band with a spiritual emphasis. Fusing symphonic progressive rock with artsy power pop, they brought in other musicians (notably Dan Pomeroy whom they had played with before) to share this goal. A healthy dose of AOR pomp rock and a touch of celtic folk were also thrown into the mix with tin whistles and violins playing a prominent role. If you can imagine the sound of bands like Yes, Kansas, Rush, and Genesis mixed with the modern pop of bands like Keane, Mutemath, The Corrs, and Jellyfish, and the spiritual sensibilities of, say, Iona or Neal Morse, then you might get close to describing the style of Supernal Endgame... thoughtful compositions with tons of hooks.
The band's first project was to mix all of these styles into a unique "worship" project titled "Touch the Sky". A couple of discs worth of tunes have been (and still are being) recorded, but the first volume was self-released in the Fall of 2009 with the band as a trio who used other musicians live. Supernal Endgame signed a record deal with Progrock Records in early 2010, and an official label release of TTS vol. I, surfaced in the Spring of 2010.
"Touch the Sky vol. I" boasts two very special guests. Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings and Transatlantic adds his tasty guitar and imaculate tone to one of the tunes and Randy George of Ajalon and the Neal Morse band plays bass on several tracks. The release's songcraft and dense arrangements have created a buzz for the band in the prog rock community since and they have been getting rave reviews (see below). "I just love a good hook and a good melody and Supernal Endgame has it in droves, I was really excited to get these guys on the label.” said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records.
In late 2010, new members Tom More and Jet Cheek went from live band status to full members. Since the release of "Touch the Sky: Vol. I", Supernal Endgame has contributed a song on Colassus' Flower Kings tribute called "A Flower Full Of Stars", recently released on the Musea lable. A tune was also donated to the Haiti Relief Projekt which is now available. And they have just been added to the roster of the Mellow label's forthcoming Yes tribute as well. Also, their song "Still Believe" appeared on the 2011 release of the CPR 4 project. On top of all this, "Touch the Sky: Vol. II" is also due out in late 2011. The Summer of 2011 has brought a change to the lineup of the band. Dan Pomeroy decided to leave the band to pursue other goals. John Crafton has since stepped into the role vacated by Dan.
