And now for a mixed review

How then does one address the inevitable negative critiques of one’s work? It would be easy to simply use this space as nothing but repeated cheerleading and sales pitches. But while that makes marketing sense there is an element of hollowness if not deceit; a convenient blind spot. Certainly one of the hardest things for an artist to do is accept that their creation is not without blemish in the same way no parent wants to hear they have an ugly baby. But no song ever played has been all…See More

My review in Progression Mag

It's awfully nice that my first major piece of press was so positive. Eric Harabadian of Progression Magazine (the biggest and oldest U.S. publication dedicated to prog...www.ProgressionMag.com) reviewed "Self-Evident Truths" for their autumn issue. Here's what he had to say in full:"Tom More toiled for years in cover bands and more recently as sound engineer and composer for commercials and film projects. He mostly has remained behind the scenes but…See More

PROGROCK HELP! :(

This group is made for helping progrock bands with their career. Bands can add links to the votes for competitions, radio playlists and all sorts of marketing ideas. So let's help Progrock to revolutionize mainstream.

Biography
As many kids do, I started with piano lessons at an early age. But, when I recognized that practicing scales and Tchaikovsky could only lead to tuxedos, the Van Cliburn competition (as, perhaps, a stage hand), and a modicum of public approval and respect I made a break for my newly discovered world of rock-n-roll. My most musically impressionable years came during the era of 80’s hair bands and New Wave. I think I’ve shaken all that off but that was also when I first listened to Rush. They held my attention like no other group both technically and thematically. The challenge of their musicianship and refusal to write songs about love and partying was an impressive departure from the ordinary, and they have remained my biggest influence to this day (yeah, bass, keyboards, vocals…go figure). Living by the philosophy that playing several instruments ok made up for being really good with one I learned drums and percussion in high school band, then taught myself bass (complete with lots of bad playing habits) and was in several cover bands during my college years. A long stint working for Uncle Sam throughout the 90’s and the past few years kept me from a serious pursuit of music, but the embers still burned and I have returned ready to make up for that lost time.

Working through distraction

Posted on September 4, 2010 at 9:37pm 0 Comments

The past couple of months have been a really busy time; starting a new job, the wife getting a new job, rehearsing for next weekend’s Supernal Endgame show, working on the “El Negocio” score, plus a 17-month-old in the house. It has been quite an effort to get much original music listened to let alone written. I tend to write best when I have a couple or more uninterrupted hours to noodle around and record snippets or develop a longer phrase. Generally that’s always been found in the late… Continue

Loss-less downloads at Mindawn.com

Posted on May 22, 2010 at 3:16pm 0 Comments

My album "Self-Evident Truths" is now available from www.Mindawn.com as an OGG or FLAC digital download. "What in the world are those" you ask?...well, OGG is a format similar in quality and size to MP3 and works on all MP3 players. It's also $.99 per song. FLAC is a higher audio quality but not as monstrously sized as a WAV file (about half as large). But for the audiophile this is important especially with high quality playback systems. Clearer highs and… Continue
