Widetrack was founded in 2005 by Ron Tippin, a multi-faceted musician/producer from Michigan, USA, who wrote, co-engineered, co-produced and funded the debut Widetrack album, released in spring 2007. Buzz on the group has been building since performing at the 2007 and 2008 Voodoo Music Experience shows in New Orleans. Given the chance to perform on the same bill as such artists as Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, The Black Crowes and many more, the band rose to these occasions and won over a wealth of new fans. Widetrack is currently preparing to tour in support of "Widetrack II", released in winter '09. Stay tuned!
Influences or Favorite Bands
Radiohead (yes, they're prog!); The Mars Volta (more so the "Deloused" era than anything else, although the new album is quite excellent as well); Queens Of The Stone Age (last album was definitely on the fringe of prog, in my book!); Porcupine Tree; Genesis (Peter Gabriel era, of course); Te' (an amazing post-rock band from Japan); Soundgarden; Tool (I consider Aenima to be their "first" album; the first couple can be deleted from their history, as far as I'm concerned); Tori Amos Band (one of the best rhythm sections I've seen); Air; Portishead; Black Sabbath (Ozzy era, of course!); King Crimson ('69-'70s lineups); Rush (Terry Brown era only!); Led Zeppelin; Marillion (Fish era only!); Sade; The Police; The Beatles; Steely Dan; etc., etc., etc...
