We are happy to announce that on December 13th Captain of the Lost Waves will release his sixth official music video from his exceptionally well-received album Hidden Gems Chapter 3 – Mysterium Tremendum, the new video is an alternative acoustic space synth version of the single ‘Noise and Amusements’ which has been remixed and remastered for this release.
In related news, a New Album Crowded Funding Project has been launched to help pay for the completion of the stunning new album “Beautiful Ugly”.
The captain makes his return nearly 18 months after a life-changing road traffic accident where both he and his family were caught up in a police car chase resulting in being hit by the stolen vehicle.
During the challenges of such a stark rehabilitation, music was miraculously still being created, albeit in a very slow, labored, and somewhat sedate ‘late-night fashion’. Strong painkillers/opioids became ‘married’ to those rare and fleeting moments of energetic impulses that screamed out to be expressed – hence a reflective, healing, contemplative album emerged.
The 9-track album Beautiful Ugly will be released on the bespoke American label Melodic Revolution Records in Sept 2024. It was made with just 3 players, The Captain on Voice/Bouzouki/Guitar, Damian Clark on Keys/Synths, and Wendy Ross on Violin.
Being a writer who follows such persistent whispers, prods, and an almost otherworldly invitation with deep reverence to the process, The Captain felt compelled to bring this album into existence despite the circumstances that prevailed.

Following last Friday’s announcement of the new studio album ‘The Likes Of Us’ by the award-winning progressive rock band Big Big Train to be released on March 1st, 2024, the band are delighted to announce four shows in the USA in March 2024. These shows are in addition to the band’s previously announced co-headlining appearances next year on board Cruise To The Edge in March and at the final Night Of The Prog in Germany in July as well as their debut at Cropredy festival in the UK in August.
The band will perform for the first time ever in the United States as follows: Friday, March 1st, 2024 – Sweetwater Performance Theatre, Fort Wayne, Indiana Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 – Rivoli Theater at The Williams Center, Rutherford, New Jersey Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 – Rivoli Theater at The Williams Center, Rutherford, New Jersey Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 – Regent Theatre, Arlington (Boston), Massachusetts Ticket links for these shows are at www.bigbigtrain.com/live. The band’s two performances at the Rivoli Theater will feature substantially different set lists. Tickets for all shows will go on sale at 10am Eastern US time on Friday, December 15th.
“We could not be more pleased to be bringing Big Big Train to the USA for the first time,” comments lead vocalist Alberto Bravin. “We know that over the years a number of fans have travelled huge distances from North America to see the band play live in the UK and Europe. It’s wonderful that we can now re-pay that commitment so that they will be able to have the opportunity to see us in the States.”
“I’ve wanted Big Big Train to play in North America for many years,” drummer Nick D’Virgilio adds. “We’ve been thwarted a couple of times previously, so this is long overdue. We can’t wait to perform for our North American fans who have been so patient waiting for the band to cross the Atlantic. As we have only have a small time window that works for all of us, this is a very short run of dates, but if the shows go well then we will aim to return soon!”
For these four shows the band’s line-up will consist of Alberto Bravin (lead vocals), Nick D’Virgilio (drums), Oskar Holldorff (keyboards), Clare Lindley (violin), Rikard Sjöblom (guitars/keyboards) and Gregory Spawton (bass) as well as an additional multi-instrumentalist who will play trumpet, guitar and keyboards.
“In an ideal world Big Big Train would include a full brass section at every show, but financial realities just don’t allow us that luxury currently,” explains Gregory Spawton. “Going forwards we want Big Big Train to play as many shows as possible – meaning that we will be performing some shows with and some without the brass section. We’re keen to retain a brass element in all shows however and therefore Dave Foster has very graciously agreed to sit out our North America shows so that we can bring in a trumpet player, whose name we will be announcing soon.”
“Playing with a trumpet player is going to give these US shows a different flavour,” Rikard Sjöblom says. “We’ve got a great set list planned and I’m excited about being able to show what Big Big Train can do as a seven piece live band before we re-unite with a full brass section for the two shows on board Cruise To The Edge.”

‘The Likes Of Us’ will be released as a Limited CD & Blu-ray Mediabook edition that contains the album as 5.1 Surround Sound, 24-bit high-resolution stereo, and for the first time in Dolby Atmos, mixed by The Pineapple Thief’s Bruce Soord, while the stereo mixes were undertaken by the band’s regular engineer Rob Aubrey together with Alberto Bravin. The album will also be available as a Gatefold 180g 2LP (available in black, sky blue, olive green and orange formats), Standard CD Jewelcase and Digital Album. Melodic Revolution Records are beyond thrilled to announce the signing of COLIN CARTER, Co-founder of English Progressive Rock Group Flash to the MRR family of talent.
Flash was an English progressive rock group, formed by former Yes guitarist Peter Banks, vocalist Colin Carter, bassist Ray Bennett, and drummer Mike Hough in August 1971 the band released three studio albums, with all three in the top 200 Billboard charts as well as their debut which charted at No. 33.
Colin relocated to the US in the late 70s and continued performing with many bands. In the 2000’s Colin headed north, this time for rural Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest. During his time in Oregon, he has recorded a reformed Flash album on Cleopatra Records, with Ray Bennett, former Flash bass player, now on guitar. The two performed as Flash at Mexicali Prog Festival in Mexico in 2005 and again at the ProgDay Annual Progressive Rock Festival in North Carolina in 2010.
Colin now resides near the Oregon Coast. He is still writing, recording, and has released a solo CD named “Colin Carter-One” in 2018. Writing and singing all the songs, and playing most of the instruments, he produced an eclectic collection of songs in wide ranging styles. The album became an experiment to test the boundaries of his musical and songwriting and production skills. A learning experience.
So what’s next? Well Colin has finished recording a second solo album, Tracks in Space and is due out in 2023.
In a statement from Colin I had just completed the Tracks in Space album, which was a ton of work, of course, but when it was finished , things all came to a grinding halt.
I didn’t want just another self release like my previous project, the Colin Carter-One CD which did okay but its release was limited in scope, I wanted more.
So in asking around my industry friends, I was pointed in the direction of Nick Katona of Melodic Revolution Records, and it turned out to be a perfect fit.
I came up with the music, Nick saw the possibilities, so now Melodic Revolution Records will be helping to send it out to the world to a far greater audience then I ever could.

Joe Deninzon has been hailed by critics as “The Jimi Hendrix of the Violin,” because of his innovative style on the “Viper” seven-string electric violin. Joe is the lead singer and violinist for the progressive rock band, Stratospheerius, which has just released their 6th album, “Behind the Curtain (Live at ProgStock).” He can be heard on over a hundred albums and jingles as a violinist and string arranger.
Deninzon has performed and/or recorded with the Who, Bruce Springsteen, 50 Cent, Sheryl Crow, Ritchie Blackmore, Alex Skolnick, Smokey Robinson, Les Paul, Peter Criss from KISS, Michael Sadler, Renaissance with Annie Haslam, Kurt Elling, and as a soloist with Jazz at Lincoln Center and the New York City Ballet. A BMI Composer’s Grant recipient and winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, he has written solo works for violinist Rachel Barton Pine, and in 2015, premiered his Electric Violin Concerto with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra.
Joe holds a Bachelors degree in Violin Performance from Indiana University and a Masters in Jazz Violin From Manhattan School of music.
KANSAS original member and drummer Phil Ehart comments, “We are extremely excited for Joe Deninzon to be the newest member of KANSAS. We believe KANSAS fans will enjoy what Joe will bring to the band. We are excited to kick off the KANSAS 50th Anniversary Tour. Prog music artist Leon Alvarado will be releasing a new box set of his most recent album “Charging The Electric Dream” on May17th! The set includes the original CD of the very well-received album plus a second CD containing “Outisde The Dream” (Epic version) which serves as the soundtrack for the short film of the same name. The box set also includes two full color post cards recreating some of the promotional poster and a numbered and signed presentation card. All the materials are neatly contained in an elegant, collectible box with a color-printed insert and it’s own unique artwork.
Says Leon, “The project as a whole has taken a long time to come to fruition, so I wanted to give it a release with all the trimmings. I think collectors will find great enjoyment and additional engagment in this box set.”
The music housed in this box set was recorded periodically over a span of several decades. A video for the title track was released concurrently with the album on Decemeber of last year followed by “Outside The Dream” the short film which was released on February 15th along with its soundtrack. The Box set will be sold exclusively through Melodic Revolution Records.
Primarily known for his record label and music promotion artwork, in 2008 Leon Alvarado released his first album,“Plays Genesis and Other Original Stuff”as an ode to one of his favorite bands. Since then, he has released several records and worked alongside an impressive list of well-known musicians such as Rick Wakeman, Bill Bruford, Billy Sherwood, Jon Davison (Yes), John Goodsall (Brand X), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, KC), Jerry Marotta, (Peter Gabriel), John Helliwell (Supertramp), Tony Franklin (The Firm), Johnny Bruhns, (Circa), Edoardo Scordo, Damian Darlington (Brit Floyd), Ty Tabor (King’s X) to name a few.
Leon’s musical output can be categorized as a blend of Prog Rock with Ambient, some Classical and a measure of Fusion. Each piece, as well as his library as a whole, is a constantly evolving musical landscape that can simultaneously embrace the listener in familiarity, while embarking on exciting and experimental journeys of sound.
