Detroit-based ‘Progressive Super Metal’ quintet IMMINENT SONIC DESTRUCTION have
unveiled a new lyric video for the title track to their new album, ‘The Sun Will Always Set’. Fans can watch the video (created by Ross Morgan) at the link found here.
The band’s third studio album was released on April 15th and features multiple guest appearances, including Battlecross guitarist Tony Asta and touring cellist for Leprous, Raphael Weinroth-Browne.
Speaking about the track “The Sun Will Always Set”, Tony Piccoli (vocals/guitar) comments:
“This is the best song I’ve ever written. When I write music, I have a vision of what I want the song to be, and with this song I not only met my expectations, I exceeded them. Lyrically, this song is meant to provide comfort in endings. We always find comfort in the next day’s sunrise, and I want people to know they can find comfort in the consistency of the day’s sunset, and that it’ll be OK.”

About IMMINENT SONIC DESTRUCTION:Originally formed in 2007 as “mellotrön_”, Imminent Sonic Destruction features the same lineup today that they started with: Pat DeLeon on Drums, Pete Hopersberger on Keyboards & Vocals, Bryan Paxton on Bass & Vocals, Tony Piccoli on Guitar & Vocals, and Scott Thompson on Guitar & Vocals. Imminent Sonic Destruction’s influences range from Genesis, Devin Townsend, Rush, and King’s X, to Pantera, Dream Theater, and Meshuggah.
In 2012 I.S.D. paired up with producer/guitarist ROY Z (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Tribe of Gypsies) and recorded their first full-length album ‘Recurring Themes’. The album led the band to their first national tour, pairing up with Sweden’s PAIN OF SALVATIONand Italy’s KINGCROW. In 2015 they were offered the opportunity to tour with progressive metal legends FATES WARNING, which they acted on, gaining lifelong hardcore fans along the way. In 2016 Imminent Sonic Destruction released their second album ‘Triumphia’, a concept record featuring songs like “The Fog”, and the 23-minute epic “Arborous Calm.” The album of course turned the prog metal world on its head, which led to a tour with Norway’s CIRCUS MAXIMUS, and a co-headlining run with NYC’s EDENSONG.
A number of years and one pandemic later, I.S.D. are poised to release their third full-length album, ‘The Sun Will Always Set’. The new album was produced by Nick Hagen, guitarist of Michigan-based progressive metal band ENTRANSIENT. With Nick at the helm, I.S.D. was able to fully actualize the album the new LP in the way they intended. TSWAS features the heavy riffs, non-standard arrangements, and vocals you’ve come to expect from I.S.D., but in fresh new contexts. The new record features guest appearances from guitarist Tony Asta of BATTLECROSS, cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne of LEPROUS, vocalist Lady Luna from LADY LUNA AND THE DEVIL, and vocalist Kevin Wroebel of DRAGGED BENEATH.

Swedish rockers take their show online including the debut performance of brand new single!
After having to postpone gigs all over the world due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak, Swedish band ECLIPSE has organized an online gig that will be streamed LIVE from Stockholm on Wednesday, April 1st at 8 pm CET.
Lead singer Erik Martensson:” In the last few weeks we have had to cancel shows in Japan, Australia, the UK, Spain and a bunch of other places. So we started talking about what options we had. We could, of course, set up a phone in our rehearsal space and stream a gig from there but to be honest so could anyone else. We wanted to do something really special. We have joined forces with a team of professional broadcast producers to be able to deliver a unique live experience complete with multiple HD cameras and grade A sound, produced on the fly!”
Guitarist Magnus Henriksson:” I am really excited! Playing a show only in front of cameras will be a completely new experience for all of us. I guess the only thing we know for certain is that there will be no crowd surfing… We are taking the opportunity to perform a few songs we rarely play but more importantly we will play our brand new single that is yet to be released!” Erik Martensson:” We have tried to keep ticket prices as low as possible. For 8 Euros we feel we can deliver awesome value to fans and at the same time make sure the production team gets compensated fairly. Musicians are not the only line of professionals getting hit big time by this freaking virus.”
British rock band Black Orchid Empire share their brand new single “Evergreen” along with a music video. It’s the first single taken from the new studio album “Semaphore” which is scheduled to be released on June 12th, 2020 via Long Branch Records.
Black Orchid Empire guitarist and singer Paul Visser about the new single: “Evergreen is one of our favorite tracks on Semaphore. It’s full of really interesting chord progressions, riffs and melodies that somehow come together and make perfect sense. It came from a guitar riff that I had knocking around for a while that Dave and Billy found a home for. The middle instrumental section is something we haven’t done for a while – it just felt right to take the song on a journey from quite empty and sparse to full-on insanity.
Lyrically, as with all the tracks on Semaphore, it’s a sci-fi story. All of the thematic concepts for the songs came about organically while we were writing – Evergreen is about the idea of a slowly receding island of lush greenery in an otherwise barren wasteland. The last habitable place on a planet, run by the elite, with a band of exiled scavengers living on scraps in the outskirts.
Our good friend Alina Gordienco came up with the video treatment, which portrays an artistic interpretation of the lyric, and shot an incredible narrative sequence in the Ukraine. We were floored with what she put together – it perfectly complements the music and conjures the same visuals we had in our heads for the song. It blew us away!
Although not a traditional single format, Evergreen serves as a great introduction to the wider ideas and musical explorations of the rest of the album.”

German indie three-piece KOJ shares their new single “Jenny” along with a live session video. It’s the second single from the bands Long Branch Records label debut album “HOME” coming Spring 2020. The song “Jenny” talks about experiencing dark moments in your life and feeling like there is no possible way out of it. KOJ wanted to explore the way someone might perceive the world through this lens of anxiety and hopelessness and it made them wonder what it might take for that person to see a silver lining and to feel like they belong again.
KOJ comments on new single “Jenny”: “Jenny was written in our home studio and it was a very intuitive and collaborative process. The three of us started jamming randomly at the beginning of a songwriting session and it just sort of came together. Beray Habip, our producer and engineer, coordinated the whole thing and guided us through the process of making the song. In a way, Jenny came out of thin air, but then again this is one of those songs that seems to have been waiting somewhere in the collective subconscious just to be written. Basically it only took us one day to write the entire track and record a demo version. It was such a wonderful feeling to listen to Jenny at the end of that day, realizing that ‘wow, we really did this!’. We then took the demo to Toolhouse Studios to record the final version of the song. So, the song is called Jenny, which originally came from ‘Jennifer Lawrence’, which was the working title for the track. The song has a line about a silver lining, so we thought of ‘Silver Linings’ and about Jennifer Lawrence. We had started this weird habit on previous songs of temporarily naming the songs after celebrities, before committing to a proper song title. We created quite the line-up with names such as Pamela Anderson or Scarlett Johansson, before renaming them for the album. Jennifer Lawrence became Jenny and stayed this way because the name also has a very personal reference and connection to the theme of the song.”

Calgary-based hard rock quintet KOBRA AND THE LOTUS have returned with their new studio album ‘Evolution‘, which will get a September 20th release on Napalm Records.The upcoming LP sees the band imbued with a new fire that comes through by way of undeniable hooks, soaring guitar riffs, marching drum beats, and the soulful, bombastic vocal delivery of lead singer Kobra Paige. No longer bound by old formulas and expectations from the past, ‘Evolution‘ comes through with a sound that is expansive and, at times, borders on outright swagger. Each song feels like an Active Rock hit in the making, while still having the grit and feverish intensity that longtime fans have come to admire from Kobra and the Lotus.

‘Evolution‘ boasts the band’s most cohesive and confident material to date. For the new record, Kobra and the Lotus enlisted the services of producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette[Alter Bridge, Linkin Park, Slash, Sevendust]. “The new body of work sets the tone for the music going forward. Sonically, it’s still heavy. It highlights the showmanship and maintains the edge. At the same time, it’s approachable. It pays tribute to our influences, but it takes the next step. So, it’s a reintroduction to us and a rebirth. A firm goal was to build a strong identity and update everything. We just want to be Kobra and the Lotus; that’s what we’re doing.
The first single, “Burn!” ignites this chapter. A hummable riff snaps into a visceral verse as the frontwoman directly declares, “I really hate you, yes I do.” The track builds towards an incendiary and infectious chorus, hinging on a seesawing guttural groove and hitting like a sledgehammer. “It’s about all of the reasons you hold yourself back,” she explains. “You literally need to burn all of those feelings, stories, excuses, and obstacles keeping you from being your own authentic self. It’s super personal. It’s a product of growing and arriving as a person. I’m realizing who I am. It’s symbolic of the rebirth,” says Kobra.

Going further into the process behind ‘Evolution,’ Kobra comments, “We’ve never done a record like ‘Evolution.’ We’ve flown demos over the internet back and forth or started a few ideas prior to hitting the studio. This time, we were all working together in the flesh for the full duration of the writing process. It’s a collision of everything we love. We feel like it’s the freshest and most timeless thing we’ve brought to the table.”
In addition to the release of their new record, Kobra and the Lotus will hit the road starting next month. The trek kicks off on August 29th in Nashville, TN and concludes on November 1st in Ft. Myers, FL.
