Metallica has regretfully had to cancel their headline performances at Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival in Columbus, OH (May 15 & 17) and Louder Than Life in Louisville, KY (September 18 & 20) to allow singer James Hetfield to continue his road to recovery.
Metallica reassures its fans that Metallica will appear at Danny Wimmer Presents festivals Epicenter (May 1 & 3), Welcome to Rockville (May 8 & 10) and Aftershock (October 9 & 11) as scheduled.
Multiplatinum and Grammy winning bands Red Hot Chili Peppers (recently reunited with guitarist John Frusciante) and Tool have been announced as new headliners for Sonic Temple,joining Saturday’s multiplatinum, Grammy winning headliner, Slipknot for the May 15 – 17 festival at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline Friday, May 15 while Tool will headline Sunday, May 17.

Sonic Temple and Louder Than Life pass holders who would like to exchange their passes to see Metallica at another Danny Wimmer Presents festival, or would like to receive a refund, will be able to do so starting this Friday, February 28. An email will be sent out to purchasers from Front Gate Ticketing on Friday at 10:00 AM EST with complete exchange and refund details.

With a new home at the world-renowned Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, the 10th year of Welcome To Rockville features an unparalleled lineup of today’s top rock and metal artists and up-and-coming talent for Florida’s Biggest Rock Experience, happening on Friday, May 8, Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2020.
As previously announced, Metallica—recently named the world’s biggest all-time touring act by Pollstar—will exclusively headline all five Danny Wimmer Presents hard rock festivals in 2020, including Welcome To Rockville, in a unique collaboration unprecedented for any American festival promoter or band.
In addition to Metallica, who will perform two different sets (Friday, May 8 and Sunday, May 10), fan-favorite Disturbed will headline Saturday, May 9. The diverse lineup also includes Lynyrd Skynyrd (their last show ever in their Northern Florida home area), Godsmack, Deftones, Social Distortion, The Offspring, Staind, Lamb of God, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, Mastodon, Gojira, Royal Blood, Alter Bridge, The Pretty Reckless, Anthrax, Ghostemane, Hellyeah, Hollywood Undead, Bad Wolves and many more.
“As a lifelong fan, it was an overwhelming experience to attend Lynyrd Skynyrd’s final hometown show at a sold-out stadium (TIAA Bank Field) in Jacksonville in September of 2018. Lynyrd Skynyrd is a band that has known tragedy and responded with nothing but triumph for over 50 years. They defined Southern rock, and they were a definitive part of my own rock n’ roll education growing up in Jacksonville,” says Danny Wimmer, founder of Danny Wimmer Presents. “After nine great years in Jacksonville, it was a difficult decision to move Welcome To Rockville to a new home — but it was a necessary decision for the festival to continue to grow and deliver the kind of experience that Florida’s rock fans deserve. According to the EPK I am looking at, these guys were formed in 2006, but surely that can’t be correct as not only have they not yet released an album (there have various EP’s over the years), but they’re not signed either, and that definitely doesn’t make any sense at all. Frontwoman Meka is obviously a force of nature, and it is no surprise to see that they have supported bands as diverse as Mastodon, Gojira, The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Otep and In Flames. Inspired by Metallica, Joan Jett, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Ghost, guitarist Bobby Keller describes Meka Nism’s sound as “powerful, metallic, aggressive, melodic, and in your face.”
There are times when one thinks the riffs are going to turn into some down-tuned monster, but while it is still a beast to be reckoned with they instead turn it into another direction altogether. They are incredibly melodic, incredibly diverse and dynamic, but when the time is right to put the hammer down then they will do that with some force as well. Fans of Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy and Epica should seek these guys out. It surely can only be a small matter of time until they get picked up by a major and get the album out that they so richly deserve.
