Pattern-Seeking Animals unveil 2nd single and video “Somewhere North of Nowhere” from upcoming new album “Spooky Action at a Distance”

Pattern-Seeking Animals (PS-A) share another musical glimpse of their upcoming album, Spooky Action at a Distance, out on InsideOutMusic on October 27th.

With their new single “Somewhere North of Nowhere”, the US-based group delivers yet another catchy track with an animated and AI generated music video.
“Somewhere North of Nowhere is a cheery little story of a guy on a spiritual journey who soon realizes he’s being followed. Might be preternatural forces, might be aliens, but he soon discovers something very, very bad is happening right over the horizon. It’s too late to turn around as the dire situation is only getting worse. Or, he could be hallucinating all of this…”

The album’s first single, “Window to the World”, that came out in August, immediately captivates with its high-energy, up-tempo art-rock infused with elements of ska and reggae. Demonstrating the band’s fearless approach to experimentation, the single introduces listeners to a sonic universe that is both innovative and nostalgic.

Spooky Action at a Distance finds Pattern-Seeking Animals more confident than ever, approaching new soundscapes and topics, showcasing their evolution, and commitment to pushing their own creative boundaries.
John Boegehold explains, “Because this is our fourth release in less than five years, my intention was to shift gears and not go over ground that’s already been covered. In addition to using different sounds, textures and musical styles, we approached the vocals, especially backing vocals from a fairly different angle. In addition, the album was recorded, mixed and mastered at a different studio with a different engineer than our previous three releases.”
The different approach is not only noticeable in production and sounds, but in the lyrics as well. “The subject matter of the lyrics include a Norse king contemplating life while being conquered, an aging seeker on the path toward enlightenment, aliens hunting down humans trying to evade capture, the life of a conflicted soldier before and after WW1, a pregnant teenager leaving a bad situation at home, a reluctant hero victorious in her final battle and a guy’s girlfriend who leaves him because of his conspiracy theories.”

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS announce third studio album ‘Only Passing Through’

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS, the California-based band featuring Ted Leonard (lead vocals & guitars), Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Dave Meros (bass) and John Boegehold (keyboards), are pleased to announce the band’s third studio album titled Only Passing Through, to be released through InsideOutMusic on April 1st, 2022.  The album is the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2020 release Prehensile Tales.

The band check in on the new album here:
“Only Passing Through, our third album picks up where Prehensile Tales left off but soon takes several stylistic detours as it progresses. Everyone involved made this album a lot of fun to make and we’re all looking forward to it to finally being heard.”
John Boegehold

“This new album draws from a lot of different sources and pushes all of us to bring out our best. We all had to dig pretty deep to express out the right spirit of each song.  To call it Prog would be highly inadequate. We’re all over the map and yet, there is still a very distinct sound that threads through the whole album. I’m very proud of this record and excited for people to hear it!”
Jimmy Keegan

The band will make its RoSFest debut on April 16TH. 2022

The album will be available for pre-order on Jan 28th, 2022

RoSFest Adds Two More Bands To The 2022 Line-up

California-based, Pattern-Seeking Animals, featuring Ted Leonard, Jimmy Keegan, Dave Meros, and John Boegehold, and art-pop trio, Arc Iris, are the latest additions to the festival’s 2022 Easter line-up.

Both acts had originally been billed to play at the canceled 2020 edition of RoSFest;  “we know the care and enthusiasm for great live music that George Roldan [festival founder and former director] always put into his line-up choices, so it made sense to try and pick up directly from where he left off and rebook bands who should have played at the Sarasota Opera house back in 2020 but lost out due to the pandemic”, says Board of Director member, Octavia Brown, “something already seen when we announced Lobate Scarp earlier this year”.

P-SA’s appearance at RoSFest is set to be just one in a series of live shows planned (and the first since the band got together in 2018) to support the release of their as yet untitled third studio album. It also represents a second festival performance for Jimmy Keegan, already part of the festival line-up as drummer with Robert Berry’s 3.2.

Pattern-Seeking Animals, the California-based prog band featuring Ted Leonard (lead vocals & guitars), Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Dave Meros (bass), and John Boegehold (keyboards), has been around for less than three years but has already released two well-received albums: the eponymous debut album in 2019 and “Prehensile Tales” in 2020, both on Inside Out Music.

As John explains, “Originally P-SA was intended to be a recording project but as the debut album started coming together, we began talking seriously about doing it as a live band”.

“This music would be a challenge for a four-piece band to pull off live,” says drummer, Jimmy Keegan, “so we’ve enlisted two additional multi-talented musicians to cover all the bases”.

They’re as yet-to-be-titled third album is slated for an early 2022 release and will be supported by the band’s first live shows, including an appearance at RoSFest on Sunday, April 17th.

Arc Iris, on the other hand, will be bringing their own very unique flavor to the festival.  Originally the solo project of Jocie Adams, their heavily textured melodies and rhythms will, without doubt, captivate the RoSFest audience.

Arc Iris, the art-pop trio from Los Angeles, successfully combines story-based songs with dense electronic and orchestral arrangements. The group, which started out as the solo project of Jocie Adams (formerly of The Low Anthem) includes keyboardist, sample artist, and frequent Jon Anderson collaborator, Zach Tenorio-Miller, and drummer, Ray Belli.

Arc Iris released its acclaimed self-titled debut in 2014 on ANTI/Bella Union and followed it up in 2016 with “Moon Saloon”, a record that represents a natural progression of the first album’s whimsical explorations and energetic diversity. Produced by the group and mixed by electronic producer David Wrench of FKA Twigs and Jamie xx fame, “Moon Saloon” showcases beat-heavy melodies and textural, groove-riding rhythms. Following the release of their second album, the band toured a complete re-imagination of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’. The band later went on to release their cover version of the classic 1971 album under the name of “Foggy Lullaby” in 2018, a year which also saw the release of their fourth album, “Icon of Ego”. Shortly before the pandemic, the band premiered its most ambitious project to date, “iTMRW: A Sci-Fi Ballet”.
