The Scoop on Scarp

Lobate Scarp is a progressive rock band based in Los Angeles. Their influences range from Genesis, Yes, and Kansas, to the rock sensibilities of bands like Muse, Faith No More and Styx, and a pop infusion of catchy vocals like Simple Minds, Duran Duran, and The Police as well as strong ties to musical theater.  Their interesting take on prog-rock will surely take you on a unique musical journey.

Lobate Scarp’s full-length debut album “Time and Space” received accolades from all over the world. The album took 5+ years and 50+ musicians to make. Dilemma signed for RoSfest 2020

Dutch/UK modern prog band, Dilemma, are confirmed for RoSfest 2020. Dilemma has a history that goes back to the early 1990s and released their debut album “Imbroccata” on legendary cult prog label SI Music/RoadRunner back in 1995.

After a few years of extensive touring, the band took a hiatus until a one-off reunion concert back in 2012. This reunion created a spark that was kept alive for the next few years. The line-up solidified a few years back with the addition of frontman Dec Burke (Frost*, Darwin’s Radio) as the final piece of the puzzle.

Late 2018 Dilemma released their comeback album “Random Acts of Liberation”, a production described as being very much in the vein of artists such as Neal Morse, Frost* and Flying Colors. The album was mixed by sound engineer, Rich Mouser (Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic, Neal Morse). Random Acts of Liberation was received with high praise from the media, the audience, and colleague artists.Mike Portnoy (Flying Colors/Sons Of Apollo/ex-Dream Theater) named Random Acts Of Liberation ‘one of the best albums of 2018’: “Damn!! Yet another great new prog release.

The new album by Dilemma is some very tasty ‘modern Prog’ ala new Spock’s Beard, Frost*, Flying Colors, Steven Wilson & Haken. Awesome drumming by Collin Leijenaar and loving the melodic edge Dec Burke brings to the band! And as always an immaculate mix by Rich Mouser. One of the top-10 music albums of 2018!

RoSfest is extremely happy to introduce our audience to one of the bands that were a part of the second wave of neo-progressive rock bands from the 1990s. And with their latest release Dilemma transformed their music to an eclectic, modern prog sound with strong hooks and riffs, melodies and powerful live performances. It features seasoned musicians with a high-quality frontman in the shape of Dec Burke.

This is the icing on the cake. Dilemma will be the second band to play on Saturday, May 9th, and a band we imagine will be a positive and unexpected surprise for many in our audience. (Pending permit approval). Collin Leijenaar (Neal Morse, Affector, Kayak), drummer, producer, and manager of the band says: “It is so awesome to finally perform at RoSfest! It will be our USA debut.

We can’t wait to play the complete Random Acts Of Liberation’ album for you! Our set will be 70 minutes and with an album that clocks 72 minutes, we’ll have little time to talk from stage, so we will let the music do the talking”, he laughs. Dec Burke (ex-Frost*/Audio Plastik), who has performed at RoSfest twice already, says he is really looking forward to playing with Dilemma in the States. “It’s such a joy playing with this band, and even more joy to be able to come to Sarasota, Florida with this amazing band to perform our latest album and meet all you lovely RoSfest goers.

We are very excited to play at your festival”.

Pattern-Seeking Animals signed for festival debut at RoSfest 2020

We are delighted to announce that US band, Pattern-Seeking Animals, will be entertaining us at RoSfest 2020, as the third band out on Saturday, May 9th in the slot just prior to Big Big Train. Those who are aware of Pattern-Seeking Animals will understand why they have been given this slot, while those unaware may be in for a bit of a surprise.

Pattern-Seeking Animals is a part of the extended Spock’s Beard family of bands. This one instigated by composer and keyboard player, John Boegehold, a regular song-smith for Spock’s Beard but never an actual member of the band himself. He had some material that didn’t really fit the scope of Spock’s Beard and when he asked for some assistance in recording this material this developed into the formation of a new band with Spock’s Beard musicians; Ted Leonard, Dave Meros and Jimmy Keegan joining to form a formidable quartet.

The foursome have deliberately developed the material on their self-titled debut album, which dropped just a couple of weeks ago on Inside Out Music to be different from the type of music that Spock’s Beard tends to explore. Reviews have noted that the band strikes them as being more accessible, but without missing out on any of the typical features expected from a band described as progressive rock.

Pattern-Seeking Animals are doing many things perfectly right from the start. The strength of the material on their debut album saw them signing to major progressive rock label Inside Out Music, and this album is already picking up glowing reviews worldwide. Their second is just about finished as well, this means that this is a band that has paved the ground for a quick succession into the upper ranks of the progressive rock universe. At RoSfest, we are honored to have the privilege to be the first festival to book this fine, new band, and we are certain that their set at RoSfest will be a historic one from a band that appears to be destined to become a household name in progressive rock sooner rather than later.

STEVE MORSE BAND and RANDY McSTINE to perform at Morsefest 2019!

For the first time in SEVEN YEARS, the STEVE MORSE BAND will perform together and open for “The Neal Morse Band: The Great Adventure” concert on Saturday, August 31st.

The STEVE MORSE BAND (Steve Morse, Dave LaRue, Van Romaine) will be performing at Morsefest 2019! Also supported by the keyboard wizardry of Bill Hubauer, the SMB will be opening the festivities on Saturday night at Morsefest.

Steve has established himself in a wide range of musical genres, from classical guitar to jazz and fusion, to country and bluegrass to progressive rock, pop-rock, and hard rock, beginning with bands such as the Dixie Dregs, the Steve Morse Band, and Kansas. In 1994, Steve joined Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Deep Purple and is the band’s longest-serving guitarist. In 2011, Steve became a member of the progressive pop/rock supergroup Flying Colors

Also performing at Morsefest is RANDY McSTINE! Randy will kick off “An Evening with Flying Colors” with an opening acoustic set on Friday, August 30th.

Randy McStine is a 28-year-old musician, songwriter, and producer from New York. As a guitarist, vocalist, bassist, and drummer, Randy has recorded and performed with a diverse list of talent, including Nick D’Virgilio in the amazing prog trio The Fringe, members of King Crimson, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Tears For Fears, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Miles Davis, and Joe Satriani, along with musicians and actors from popular theater shows. He currently fronts two original bands (The Fringe, Lo-Fi Resistance), along with a touring act called PFX-The Pink Floyd Experience.

This is the BIGGEST Morsefest yet! You don’t want to miss either of these outstanding supporting acts. Head to radiantrecords.com to purchase your tickets!

HRH Prog Festival 2020

HRH Prog lanches its 9th voyage!!!!

HRH Prog IX is all about legends – which don’t come any bigger than Yes keyboard wizard – songwriter – producer – TV and radio presenter and author Rick Wakeman! With over 90 solo albums to his name, Rick continues to lead the way in British prog, having released his latest creation “Piano Odyssey” in 2018.

We are humbly honoured to welcome such a genuine rock icon to HRH Prog IX and Rick is bringing his full band to the two venues next March – the O2 Academy in Sheffield and the prestigious Shepherds Bush Empire in London – so expect a set brim-full of music from a career spanning 6 decades plus perhaps progressive takes on a rock classic or two. We honestly can’t wait for this.

The second headliner is none other than Mr. Hawkwind himself – Dave Brock. This “Audience With” set delves into a vault of music and stories we can only describe as “Brockworld”. From the busking and banter from the dawn of Hawkwind to playing some gems from his 6 solo albums, which have never really seen a live audience to moving into unchartered Hawkwind territory, this is a must for all true Hawkwind & Prog fans alike.

As if two legends of rock aren’t enough – two more huge names in prog are heading to HRH Prog IX. We have John Lees’ Barclay James Harvest who are continuing to carry the torch for the band that released no less than 10 albums in the 1970s, featuring the trademark Mellotron keyboard sound beloved of many a progressive rock fan.

Focus fly in from Holland to join us next March. Best known of course for their 1971 hit “Hocus Pocus”, the guys are still very much active having released their latest album “Focus 11” earlier this year to critical acclaim.

All the way from Lithuania, and making a return to HRH Prog, are The Skys. Having released their latest – and brilliant – album “Automatic Minds” just a few weeks ago we can’t wait to see Jonas and the guys again.

Also announced for HRH Prog IX are German’s The Spacelords who bring their wonderful space rock set to London and Sheffield. Nth Ascension have caught the prog community’s attention with their latest album “Stranger Than Fiction” released this May and we can’t wait to welcome them to the HRH family. French-based Franck Carducci makes his HRH Prog debut – and lists Pink Floyd, Genesis and Supertramp amongst his influences – perfect for us! Bram Stoker are having a resurgence having been best known for their 1972 prog epic “Heavy Rock Spectacular”. The Room will feature their new line-up – currently making waves with their latest release “Caught by the Machine.” Cambridge based psych-space rockers Psychic Lemon round out the incredible line-up for HRH Prog IX.

HRH Prog 8 at Shepherds Bush Empire Sold out in 4 weeks and Sheffield in 4 months after it was added. The 9th voyage is live and unleashed – jump onboard quick if you want to take full advantage of the Early Bird rates, Hotel Packages which include Royalty & VIP passes and the ever-popular Royalty passes which disappear like gold dust very early.
