UCPAC Hosts Virtual Stage for UnCancelled Music Festival

Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC.org) will be participating in the UnCancelled Music Festival (uncancelledmusicfestival.com). This is the venue in Rahway, New Jersey, that brings you the ProgStock Festival (ProgStock.com) every October.

Now UCPAC is bringing music right into your home, during this crazy time of isolation, by way of the UnCancelled Music Festival. UCPAC is hosting a virtual stage for the festival and bringing you some great shows from artists performing live in their homes or home studios. Ann Rinaldi (ACR Management) from ProgStock Festival is curating the talent for the stage.

The artists and venues will receive a portion of the proceeds to help keep them going during this unprecedented crisis. And a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Recording Academy’s emergency financial assistance program, MusiCares – which provides critical funds to music people struggling with financial, medical or personal crises. Any affected music professional who has lost work during this crisis can apply to receive emergency funding. It is important to all of us during this challenging time that no musician or music venue goes bankrupt.

The first night of shows on the UCPAC virtual stage is this Saturday, April 4 starting at 5 PM Eastern US time, which will be topped off at 8 PM Eastern US time by Harry Waters, son of Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents has released the following update about their 2020 music festivals:

Danny Wimmer Presents
Regretfully Announces Cancelation Of Spring Festivals:

Epicenter – May 1-3 In Concord, NC;
Welcome To Rockville – May 8-10 In Daytona Beach, FL
Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival – May 15-17 In Columbus, OH

Fall Festivals Will Go On As Scheduled Including
Louder Than Life In Louisville, KY Expanding To 4 Days
With Metallica To Headline Thursday, September 17

Info About Spring Festival Pass Exchanges And RefundsnWill Be Available Beginning Thursday, March 26

There are no pre-existing guidelines for what festivals should be doing during this unprecedented time.  Like the rest of the music industry, we continue to assess new information and make the best-educated decisions possible.  We know you have been anxious for updates from us and we are at a point where we can answer many of your questions about how each of our festivals may be affected by COVID-19.

We are crushed to say that Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are being canceled due to the governmental restrictions on mass gatherings.  We respect these directives and recognize they are in the best interest of the greater good, as well as the health and safety of our fans, musicians, partners, and staff.  Before accepting this fate, we worked really hard to try to reschedule the festivals.  Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts, venue availabilities and a number of other factors out of our control made postponing impossible.  Make no mistake, each of these festivals will return in May 2021 bigger and stronger than ever!

Let’s be perfectly clear — FULL REFUNDS will be available to everyone who has purchased passes to Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple.

In addition to offering refunds, many of you have said that you would prefer to apply your 2020 purchases towards next year or exchange your pass for another one of our 2020 festivals.   Based on your feedback, we are offering pass holders three options:

(1) Full refund

(2) Apply your pass to 2021

(3) Exchange your pass for another 2020 DWP festival

Complete details will be emailed out to our pass holders within 72 hours.

We also know that you are anxious to find out who is playing Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond and Aftershock.  Please understand that here at DWP, we’ve been debating when it is appropriate to announce our lineups and put passes on sale for our remaining festivals.  Our heads say we need to hold off on these announcements until we have more certainty in the world.  But our hearts say the world needs positivity and some things to look forward to.  We’ve been paying close attention to what you are saying on our social media and two themes consistently emerge.  First, you do want something to remind you of the better days ahead.  Second, times are financially hard for all of us.

While we want nothing more than to give you the full lineups for Aftershock, Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life, we just don’t feel like it’s the right time.  But we did hear you loud and clear that you want some good news.  And good news we have.  We are adding a Thursday to 2020 Louder Than Life and, are you ready . . . the newly added Thursday will be headlined by none other than Metallica.  Yes, Metallica is back!  We simply couldn’t accept that after all we’ve gone through together this year that there would be no Metallica performance East of the Mississippi.  And Metallica agrees!

To assist you in the current financial climate, all current pass holders for Louder Than Life will be given the 4th day FREE.  We are also deferring the next installment payment on the layaway plan for a month.  And we will leave open the refund option for Louder Than Life through Friday, March 27 in case you need your money back.

To try to make passes a little more affordable right now, anyone who wants to buy a pass for Louder Than Life can reserve a pass for $1 down per pass, with payments not starting until May 3 and split up evenly in May, June, July and August.

We have also arranged for many of the bands from Sonic, Epicenter and Rockville to play at Louder Than Life and will be announcing that as soon as we feel appropriate.  Because we were not able to reschedule the Spring festivals, we want Louder Than Life to be an inclusive celebration of all of those festivals.  It’s not a perfect solution, but these are imperfect times. It is our sincere hope that we are all able to heal together with massive celebrations this Fall.

While we don’t know if this pandemic will end in time for Hometown Rising, Louder Than Life, Bourbon & Beyond or Aftershock, rest assured that all passes will be refunded in the unfortunate event that any of these festivals are prevented from happening because of COVID-19.

We want to thank you for your continued loyalty and support.  We are blessed to have such an amazing Festival Family, and together, as a community, we will get through this.  Please stay safe and look out for each other.

With Love,
Team DWP

King Crimson to Tour North America with The Zappa Band Summer 2020

King Crimson will be playing one tour this year in USA and Canada during June and July 2020. Except for shows such as the Ottawa Blues Festival, all the dates will be double bills with the Zappa Band.

“The Summer tour will be a throwback one for us in a few ways; great to be going back to outdoor venues, some of them the ‘sheds’ we played in the 1980’s. And we’ll be travelling by tour bus, old school! As for what pieces we’ll play, that hasn’t been decided yet, but will likely be a wide selection from the 50 years of Crimson repertoire. With 7 players on stage we can cover it all.” – Tony Levin

Since King Crimson’s return to live performance in 2014, with critically acclaimed sell-out shows all over the world their three-hour shows regularly include material from twelve of their thirteen studio albums, including many of the songs from their seminal 1969 album In The Court of the Crimson King, described by Pete Townshend, as an “uncanny masterpiece”. The new 7-piece line-up plays many historic pieces that Crimson has never played live, as well as new arrangements of Crimson classics – “the music is new whenever it was written”. There are also new instrumentals and songs, as well as the compositions by the three drummers, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison, and Jeremy Stacey, which are a regular highlight. A unique show, where seven of the best musicians in the world play music without distraction or adornment.

Robert Fripp
Tony Levin

Joe Deninzon Speaks To Fans About SonicVoyageFest In The Midst of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

So I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching lately. StratospheeriusDyanne Potter Voegtlin Dark Beauty booked this mini-tour months ago and worked our asses off to promote it. We are aware of state governments’ ban on gatherings of over 250 people and the risk of the Coronavirus. We were on the phone for many hours yesterday with all the venues and with each other contemplating what to do. Are we being jerks for not cancelling our shows, knowing the turnout will be minuscule, knowing that Broadway is dark, major symphony orchestras and international touring bands have all cancelled their tours and concerts for at least the coming month, or more…?

But you know what? All the venues we spoke with don’t want to cancel, we all want to play, and the few people that came to the first two shows had a great time! We get it that people are scared and taking precautions by staying home. We respect everyone’s decision to do so.

….But FUCK it! People need music now more than ever. They need entertainment. They need some soul food. We can still get together in intimate low-capacity venues, bump elbows, and hear some live music, support artists, and support each other. So the three bands and their members, after much deliberation, have made a collective decision to move forward with the shows. Here are the two remaining shows on our tour. If you’re in the area and feel brave enough, come and support us. We will love you if you do and we will still love you if you don’t.

Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Love,
-JD & friends
