Krakow will release their 4th album, “minus” on August 31st

Karisma Records presents: minus Two albums worth of material distilled into one, focused, gem.

Following the laborious process of distilling two albums worth of material into one focused gem, we give you “minus”. The pinnacle achievement of KRAKOW’s thirteen-year existence. After a year of recording, shaping, re-recording and refining, “minus” has been reduced to the bare essence of who KRAKOW are as individuals, as a group, and as storytellers.  It is an album that defies any attempts at genre definition and covers the heavy, the subtle, the melodic, the atonal, the groovy, the sluggish, the dense, the airy, the naked, and always, always, that wall of sound where no light can escape.

“minus” was once again recorded in the renowned Duper and Solslottet studios in the Bergen Kjøtt creative complex, in collaboration, once more, with Iver Sandøy.  KRAKOW even brought in some help this time, to tell these stories, the album ending with a choir consisting of a select group of Bergen-based musical veterans, whilst the opening track introduces the most rock n’ roll guitar solo, courtesy of one Phil Campbell of Motörhead fame.

Sirens.

“This just might be our most political song to date. And as with our music, it just ended up that way. The song is at first glance a visualization of a weird world gone sour. If you dig a little further you will find pointers towards different warning signs about how we are slowly killing the planet.”

“The music is all about the riff, all about the riff man.”

The Pineapple Thief Release New Single & Video For “Try As I Might” Taken From Their Forthcoming Album Dissolution

The Pineapple Thief have launched their brand new video for “Try As I Might”, the new single from their forthcoming new studio album Dissolution. The highly anticipated follow up to 2015’s Your Wilderness, is the band’s second album to feature King Crimson and Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison.

Vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Bruce Soord explains his dystopian view “The video follows the theme of the song and the album – if you sign up to this hyper-connected world we live in, then you have to live with the consequences. Try as you might to get out of it.”

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR “TRY AS I MIGHT” HERE

The futuristic clip was created by Blacktide Phonic/Visual (www.black-tide.co.uk) director George Laycock, who expands on how he created the film “When The Pineapple Thief came to me with their track ‘Try as I might’, they had a broad basis for an idea for a music video that dealt with a social media obsessed ‘connected’ world.

This had nods to previous films and television like ‘The Truman Show’, ‘Black Mirror’, the ‘Big Brother’ landscape and its preceding shows, so it was about creating a storyline using these broad influences and encapsulating into an obscure 3-minute film on a budget.

I was interested in the concept of ‘in eye cameras’, scary technology I am sure isn’t too far away from us. We decided to go down the optical medical route and follow our character on a journey from first pre-operation, to surgery, recovery and then trying to battle the decision he has made, whilst battling with the corporation he has signed up too. The film hopefully leaves the viewer to create their own conceptions on his outcome.

We filmed it all on the Dorset/Devon coastline around where I live and were fortunate to be able to secure great locations to shoot in with a few favors, including a remote seaside post-modern house, a private beach and a real working hospital and opticians.

To keep the cast down to a minimum I decided that the camera that is watching Bruce would become the main supporting actor and his nemesis, appearing in scenes without anyone operating it. This allowed us to see the cameras point of view and tell the story to the fictional viewer. This old broadcast camera weighed an absolute ton, and carrying through remote woods, down a mile-long steep cliff path to a beach was a challenge on some of the hottest days of the year. Filming in the water at the end was a welcome refreshment.

Many thanks to all those who helped with the film, especially everyone involved at Yeovil hospital for allowing us such amazing access, and to Bruce for being so amenable about having scalpels inches from his eyeball.”

The Pineapple Thief have grown to become one of the leading lights of Europe’s experimental rock domain, Your Wilderness produced 4m+ album streams, a #7 in the UK Independent Charts and two extensive headline European tours culminating at London’s Islington Assembly Hall where the concert was recorded for the live release Where We Stood, and their new album Dissolution promises to propel the band to even greater heights.

Phideaux set to return at RoSFest in 2019

Roldan Entertainment is happy to announce that US band Phideaux, has been signed to RoSFest for 2019.

Phideaux, the band as well as the main man in the band, are dedicated friends of RoSfest. Phideaux Xavier has actually attended most of our festivals as a guest. We sometimes forget that he is also an excellent progressive rock musician with a top-notch band backing him on stage. Those who remember back to 2011, will recall just how impressive this band is to see live.

Phideaux has been working for around a decade to follow up on his massive success album, “Doomsday Afternoon“, and in 2018 that album is finally here. It is called “Infernal“, and is at the CD pressing plant at the time this press release is written. This is an album that has been eagerly awaited by progressive rock fans worldwide, and we do presume that songs from this album will be at the core of the concert to be given at RoSfest 2019. All existing fans of Phideaux will see that as natural and expected. Obviously, he has a massive back catalog of excellent material to choose from as well, which will ensure a memorable concert experience.

For those who may not be familiar with Phideaux, he has been recording and releasing music since the early 1990’s, and with this year’s album, he has a total of ten studio albums to his name. He is something of an expert in creating atmospheric laden, symphonic progressive rock, often with darker, shimmering Floydian details amidst lighter toned, elegant overlays. His material tends to be developed over many years, and with an immaculate eye for perfection covering even minor, minute details. His last three studio albums, in particular, have been impressive, and expectations are high for the album he is about to launch. In addition, the live performances from him and his band are as impressive as the material found on the albums.

It has been too long since Phideaux last played at RoSfest and we thought it was high time that he returned for the 2019 edition. Especially as the long-awaited “Infernal” now is about to be released.

RoSfest 2019, will take place on May 3rd through 5th, 2019 at the Sarasota Opera House, Florida. The final line-up and schedule for the festival are still TBA. Confirmed bands to appear so far are Jethro Tull 50th Anniversary Tour with Martin Barre, Clive Bunker and, Jonathan Noyce, Riverside, Karmamoi, Edge of Reality, Entransient, & Traverser.

The Aaron Clift Experiment – Introducing our new guitarist: Mathew Aboujaoude

It’s never easy to find a guitarist with the skill and background to play the diverse range of music in our catalog, but we’re very happy to announce that we’ve found the guy.  Introducing our new guitarist, Mathew Aboujaoude:

Currently studying guitar and songwriting at Berklee College of Music Online, Mathew started playing keyboards at the age of 7 and picked up the guitar at age 9.  For the past 4 years, he has toured extensively in Texas, Louisiana, and the Middle East with Brick Floyd, a Lebanese Pink Floyd tribute act.  Mathew has done session work with various artists in the US and abroad and is currently recording an original solo progressive rock album to be released this year.

We’re looking forward to working with Mathew as we gear up for more live shows this fall and beyond.  Mathew will be making his live debut with us at our September 27 show at One 2 One Bar in Austin, so please be sure to come out and welcome him to the ACE family!

BABAL to unleash new EP “The Glacier in September

Following on from the success of “The Circle of Confusion of Tongues”, BABAL give us a trio of tracks on their new EP, “The Glacier” that take us further into their stark, yet an optimistic reality.

Opening track “The Involuntary Reflex of the terminal Bastard” gives Karen Langley the chance to throw all the toys out the pram with no hint of self-pity; a slow build of soulful rhythms, hooks and grooves underlines a morality tale of the modern narcissist – landlord, politician, parent, partner, sibling; the Bastard is a one-stop character who always has the upper hand – until you decide to stop catching the ball.

The title track and second play are the monstrous and gorgeous “The Glacier”. From the opening mournful bars of Sarana Verlins’s lovely violin, the mood is deep and heartbreaking – a track to get lost in as the metaphorical Glacier reflects the trials and tribulations of life; the unexamined life worth living.

A fabulous, climactic ending featuring Rob Williams’ guitars,  Jon Sharps’ drums, Ben Balsom’ bass and the haunting keys of Zoie Green, take this track to the iciest peaks of beauty and sadness, yet somehow drenches us in the promise of new beginnings.

Final track “Toffeetime”(a live favorite with BABALfans) is a live studio jam (with added backing vocals by Karen) brings the full power of BABEL’Smusical forces together and creates a brilliant dystopian tale of materialism. Shredded, squeezed and packaged into a painful realization of the rotten drip-drip effect of modern first-world happiness and fake-culture.

Play this track LOUD and sink into the sweet filth of the abandoned toffee factory. You will then understand fully, and need new teeth of the Universe…..

The Glacier” will be available as a Digital album as well a hand numbered CD of Limited to 50 Copies. Each EP will be numbered and comes with an A5 poster of Paul Kopals’ EP artwork, plus an individual, hand-made art-note from BABAL in the best tradition of Dada…..
