Sweden-borne folkloric progressive rock band Kaipa proudly announce their new album Sommargryningsljus. 49 years after the release of their debut album, the band is set to reveal the 15th longplayer of their musical journey, Sommargryningsljus, which will be released via InsideOutMusic on June 28th, 2024.
The announcement comes with the release of the first single of the album, which is a mélange of both the opening and closing track of Sommargryningsljus, subsequently named “Sommargryningsljus (Single Edit)”. Two of the songs from the album, the opening track Sommarskymningsljus and the ending track Sommargryningsljus, can be heard together in this single edit version, as they were originally written.
The song is about dusk and a journey through the night to meet the light again at dawn. The single comes with a lyric video that showcases the mystical vibes of twilight and gives a glimpse of the album aesthetics and illustrations.

„I had written all the songs for the album and the total playing time was 70 minutes, but then something unexpected happened. One day when I was recording with Aleena Gibson, we took a break and went out into my garden to have a cup of coffee. Suddenly Aleena started singing some notes and I said it was beautiful. ‘Okay, let’s write a song‘, she said. So we returned to the studio and 15 minutes later a new song had been born. We were both delighted with the result and said that this song must be on the album and the lyrics must be in Swedish. I developed the song and created an interlude built on the same chords. The melody was hovering around in the studio and it landed gracefully in my fingers when I started to play. One early morning a few weeks later, the words suddenly came floating down and landed in my consciousness.“

This is a sad and strange morning – It is with profound sadness we hear that a great friend and vocalist has left us – Between 1977 and 1983 Mats Löfgren was my writing partner in music with Kaipa & beyond. Mats did what I could not, write great swedish lyrics to my music and sing it with passion & timing. Mats was always the perfect frontman who I wanted to back up as a guitarist and a wonderful a fun friend. All the touring will be remembered now with even more love, fondness and r&r brotherhood. As Mats moved with his family to Bali many years ago our contact has been sporadic over the years. The news of Mats passing this morning,of course made all of us who knew him very sad & put a lid on all the celebration of other things music. It is indeed strange and sad to realize,as we launch this new KDC album (and there are also more Kaipa music coming now again on colorful vinyl) that our history as a band today ring strange & sombre. Life is precious, life is fragile, you cannot control tomorrow – be here now, take care of your one body and soul, your friends, your family – and follow your dreams. – R.
Sweden – Prog dreams do come true! Legendary ’70s Swedish Prog ensemble Kaipa DaCapo featuring guitarist Roine Stolt will be releasing a new album “Dårskapens Monotoni” on October 10th on Foxtrot Records!
In the mid 70’s the band Kaipa was one of the main acts on the Swedish music scene, alongside groups like Kebnekaise, Samla Mammas Manna, Hoola Bandoola, Bo Hansson, Made in Sweden. Four young men devoted all their time to the band Kaipa, with regular touring and recordings between the years 1974-1978. Kaipa did many shows, over 100 each year and many live broadcasts on national radio and television. They recorded 3 albums for the DECCA label and were often compared to international contemporary giants of the genre, like Genesis, YES, Pink Floyd and Focus.
Three of the original members have now re-united and play the music from the most popular albums from their 1970’s catalogue, now together with two new younger members – trying to be faithful to the vibe and sound and 70’s style. Ingemar Bergman, Tomas Eriksson and Roine Stolt carry the torch forward from the 70’s – Roine, perhaps the most well know now within progressive circles – with recent success with his own bands “Transatlantic” & “The Flower Kings” – with almost one million albums sold. Lately also as a member of Steve Hackett’s touring band and most notably on a brand new successful collaboration with Jon Anderson of YES – “Invention of Knowledge” – released June this year to thunderous reviews. The duo are working on a follow up to that album – with possible live shows of Anderson & Stolt Orchestra in 2017.
June 2016 saw Kaipa DaCapo record brand new material for the first time in more than 35 years. This is the first full length album with new Kaipa DaCapo music from these gentlemen – recorded in a state of the art studio in a very organic and old fashion way – 5 guys playing the music together in a recording studio.
