Magma Concert 1971 Brussels DBL CD Remastered

Recorded at Theater 140 in Brussels on November 12, 1971, this double CD is an exceptional document in that it represents the only record of live MAGMA of that time. Featuring the musicians on the album MAGMA 2, the training interprets topics borrowed from KOBAIA and 1001° CENTIGRADES, the first two releases by the group. The album also presents – and this is the most interesting aspect of this recording – two titles then in the making: “SOWILOI,” where Teddy LASRY demonstrates his great talent as a flutist, and “MEKANIK KOMMANDOH,” played for the first time in public, in a version much more developed than that engraved, three months earlier, on the compilation POWER 13 + 2.

Featuring
Klaus BLASQUIZ – singing, percussion
Louis TOESCA – trumpet
Teddy LASRY – soprano sax, flute
Jeff SEFFER – tenor sax
François CAHEN – piano
Francis MOZE – bass
Christian VANDER – drums, various voices

Tracks
1 – STOAH
2 – KOBAIA
3 – AINA
4 – RIAH SAHILTAAHK
5 – “ISS” LANSEI DOIA
6 – KI IAHL O LIAHK
7 – SOWILOI (SOI SOI)
8 – MEKANIK KOMMANDOH

Rick Wakeman’s The Real Lisztomania Limited Edition Box Set Now Available For Pre-Order!

The Real Lisztomania to be released as Rick Wakeman always wanted – available CD/DVD & Deluxe Box Set!

London – Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman’s The Real Lisztomania Limited Edition Box Set is now available for pre-order! This is an extremely rare find as the master tapes were long since considered destroyed. Back in 1975 Rick was asked to oversee and compose a lot of the music for the film Lisztomania, which was directed by Ken Russell. Rick was also given a part in the film in which he played the god Thor.

A soundtrack album was later produced by Rick, which was subsequently turned down by A&M Records, much to Rick’s disgust. There were huge disputes going on at the time and they basically hated everything he produced even though he was selling albums for them in multi-millions. It is not commonly known that they actually turned down Journey To The Centre Of The Earth initially and it was only by forcing the contract that Rick had signed with them, that it was ever released. They also initially didn’t want to release The Six Wives Of Henry VIII until some vocals were put on it!

After rejecting Rick’s soundtrack master, A&M then produced a soundtrack of their own which had very little of Rick on it and yet they still thoughtfully put his name on the front cover along with that of Roger Daltrey! Rick was furious to say the least and hated the soundtrack album vehemently and told the press accordingly! It sold accordingly well! However, the film went on to become one of the cult films of all time and to find this original soundtrack is quite unbelievable as there was only one master ever in existence and yet somehow it has managed to survive more than 25 years in a box amongst some old football shorts! It was originally released as part of Rick’s fabled, Treasure Chest box set of a limited edition of 500 on the Voiceprint label, copies of going for over £500 on eBay. Now back by popular demand, in its rightful place with the film it is the soundtrack of.

The tapes have been carefully re-mastered and all concerned believe that this is truly something special. Rick’s idea was always to try and produce a completely different type of soundtrack and he produced this one by making it into a form of story with intermittent hilarious narration that runs throughout spoken by Paul Nicholas.

Guest vocalists include Roger Daltrey, Paul Nicholas & Linda Lewis. It may be more than 40 years since these altercations, but as they say, “Better late than never!” It’s certainly a very different soundtrack to any that have ever been produced in the world of film music. It’s very funny too, which is perhaps what we have come to expect from Rick with humour and music in one.

The box set, as well as other items, available will be shipped from UK for early April 2018

Rod Argent (Zombies) Confirms The Passing of Jim Rodford

It is with deep sadness that I learned this morning that my dear cousin and lifelong friend, Jim Rodford, died this morning after a fall on the stairs. More details are not yet known about the exact cause of death.

Jim was not only a magnificent bass player but also from the first inextricably bound to the story of The Zombies. An enormous enabler for us. He was actually the first person ever to be asked to join the band, way back in 1961. Because he was in the top St.Albans band of the time (The Bluetones), he turned us down at first, but from day one helped us chart our course. He loaned us The Bluestones’ state of the art gear for our very first rehearsal, arranged the rehearsal space, and even showed Hugh the first kick and snare drum pattern our original drummer ever learned. He was responsible for the first song I ever wrote (for The Bluetones – which they recorded); the person who organised most of our early gigs, and the very first person outside the group ever to hear – and pass judgement on – our first record, “She’s Not There”(he loved it). Years later, he became founder member, with me, of Argent; and then, for eighteen years, throughout a hugely successful American period for them, was bass player for The Kinks.
Jim, always a hugely sought after musician, had also had long stints as a bass player with both The Mike Cotton Sound and the Lonnie Donegan band.

When Colin and I put together our second incarnation in late 1999, our first phone call was to Jim. He gave us absolutely unflagging commitment, loyalty and unbelievable energy for eighteen years, and our gratitude is beyond measure.

To the end, Jim’s life was dedicated to music. He was unfailingly committed to local music – an ever-present member of the local scene in St.Albans, where he had spent his whole life. Often, Colin and I would compare notes a couple of days immediately after a U.S. tour and discuss how long it would take us to recover from an intense, fantastic but exhausting couple of months – only to find out and marvel that Jim had already been out playing with local bands (often, but not always, with “The Rodford Files”, made up of talented family members) or giving charity shows or lectures on the St.Albans music scene.
His dedication was rewarded with Doctorate Of Music, granted to him last year by the University Of Hertfordshire.
Jim was a wonderful person, loved by everybody. When Colin and I, shocked and hardly able to talk, shared the news this morning, Colin said: ” I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him…”
He will be unbelievably missed. Goodnight and God Bless dear friend. – Rod x

Valdez and Lines in the Sky signed for ROSfest 2018!

For Immediate Release

We are pleased to announce that Valdez and Lines in the Sky will perform at the 2018 edition of the Rites of Spring festival. And in the spirit of being progressive, we have booked both bands to perform at the opening slot on Sunday. In 2018, our faithful can look forward to two “sermons” on Sunday morning.

Valdez is a quartet based out of Philadelphia in the US, featuring the talents of singer and guitarist Simon Godfrey (Tinyfish, Shineback ), bassist Tom Hyatt (Echolyn ), keyboardist Joe Cardillo (Cold Blue Electric) and drummer Scott Miller (Stone Jack Baller). They released their debut album “This” just after ROSfest 2017, and have a new album in the pipeline.

Lines in the Sky are based out of Nashville, and was formed back in 2011, and consists of Jesse Brock (vocals, guitars), Bowman Brock (drums, percussion) and Ben McAnelly (bass). They have two albums to their name so far, “Hilasterion” (2014) and “Parallel Travel” (2016), and their third album “Beacon” is just about ready to be launched.

Both bands will have a 45 minutes long set, with a 10-minute long break in between bands so that the crew can prepare the stage and equipment for the second band. And as we are talking about Sunday morning, we rather suspect that a slight break in between bands might be a welcome feature for those in the crowd that has been a bit too festive the night before.

This is the first time we have given the “Church of Prog” slot to two bands to share. Both of them are stellar up-and-coming bands, hence this novel solution for booking both of them.  We look forward to enjoying both of their performances. Of course, both bands will appear at the signing table after the concert.
