PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS to release “Prehensile Tales” there highly anticipated follow up to their critically acclaimed debut

In 2019, PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS, the California-based band featuring Ted Leonard (lead vocals & guitars), Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Dave Meros (bass) and John Boegehold (keyboards), presented its much-lauded eponymous debut.
Just a year later, the group announces May 15th, 2020 as the release date for its newest opus, “Prehensile Tales”, which expands the stylistic niche carved out by the debut and adds additional twists and turns along the way.

For the six songs on the album (the longest clocking in at over 17 minutes), the band introduced violin, flute, trumpet, cello, sax and pedal steel to the sound palette that was once again recorded & mixed by Rich Mouser at The Mouse House.

“I started writing for the second album right as we were finishing up the first one,” says Boegehold, who is again producing. “I wanted to change around some of the songwriting approaches I’d been using and draw from a few different musical influences while not straying too far from the overall vibe of the band.”

Ted Leonard adds: “This album is another collection of lush arrangements and infectious melodies. I mean REALLY infectious. There are certain lines that are the last thing going through my head at night and the first thing in the morning. I think it’s actually furthering my insanity.”

For the striking cover image, P-SA collaborated with Polish artist Mirek (https://www.facebook.com/mirekis7/), whose ‘An evolutionary broadcast’ design Boegehold immediately considered a perfect fit to the album’s peculiar title.
“Prehensile Tales is a play-on-words I came up with while writing lyrics and thought it would be a funny album title. As a bonus, it actually seems to mean something that fits the music.”

To coincide with the album’s release, the band is set to perform at RosFest 2020 in Sarasota, Florida on May 9th and is lining up more dates later in the year which will be announced soon.

Prehensile Tails Tracklisting:
1. Raining Hard In Heaven

4. Why Don’t We Run
5. Lifeboat
6. Soon But Not Today

Thank You Scientist set to return to RoSfest as headliners

It is a sheer pleasure to announce that Thank You Scientist will return to RoSfest on Sunday, May 10th, 2020 as our third headliner since we feel they easily merit this position. The band had a killer performance when they played for us back in 2014 and we know their performance will be even better when they return in 2020.

Following years of delivering one vital album after the other, they are now headlining most of their tours and recently concluding a summer tour with Bent Knee who was opening for them. They are also touring internationally as they recently headlined a mini-tour in England, as well as opening for Coheed & Cambria while playing in the United Kingdom. In short, Thank You Scientist’s brand of eclectic, challenging and dynamic progressive rock is catching on towards an ever-increasing audience. Their most recent album, “Terraformer” (2019), hit the top 10 sales on iTunes earlier this year and they sold more copies of their special advance pre-order version of that album than most progressive rock bands have as total sales of their releases. Thank You Scientist is going places and doing so very quickly which is why they deserved a headlining spot at RoSfest. A festival should always conclude on a high note and with Thank You Scientist, we know that this will indeed be the case for the 2020 edition of RoSfest.

United Progressive Fraternity signed for RoSfest 2020

We are really happy to announce that United Progressive Fraternity have been signed for RoSfest 2020. Originally, revolving around the talents and vision of former Unitopia member Mark Trueack, United Progressive Fraternity has explored their visions about the human condition and the state of the environment on two albums to date; with a third in production. US multi-instrumentalist, Steve Unruh has joined the cause on a permanent basis and with him onboard, the musical nature of the band has developed as well. While initially more of a heavy progressive rock band, UPF is rather more expansive in terms of style as of 2019.

While not clearly defined as a band as such, the word, “fraternity” reveals a lot about how the band’s albums have been crafted. There are two musical sides to UPF: version 1 is a variation made up of musicians from around the globe. Version 2 UPF: Acoustic has been formed in Adelaide. UPF Acoustic will launch in 2021 and will perform new arrangements from both Planetary Overload Loss and the upcoming double package, HOPE.Those who like high quality, accessible progressive rock that covers multiple bases will have a lot to look forward to when United Progressive Fraternity hits the stage as the third band out on Sunday, May 10th. Those who are concerned about the environment and the current and future state of Mother Earth, can look forward to hearing kindred spirits sharing their concern using music and lyrics as the main tools to spread the word and their thoughts on these and related subject matters.

Lobate Scarp Return With New Single, New EP, and RoSFest 2020 News

It’s been a while, but we’re back and lots of cool stuff is happening!

Our new EP “Spirals and Portals” comes out September 10. Everyone who pre-orders on Bandcamp, gets to download our new single “Nothing Wrong” immediately.   Recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Rich Mouser (Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band), the EP features recently released single “Nothing Wrong” (original and radio edit), previous single “Beautiful Light”, and a new seven and a half minute piece “And We Tried”.  Steven Leavitt, producer of Lobate’s debut album Time and Space, returned to engineer and co-produce.

Time and Space musicians Adam Sears (Vocals, Keyboards, Songwriter), Andy Catt (bass), Andrea Whitt (Viola, Pedal Steel), Rachel Grace (Violin) return for the EP. Hoyt Binder, Lobate’s founding lead guitarist also returns to perform on “Nothing Wrong” and “And We Tried”. Several guest musicians were also involved in making these new tracks. We hope you enjoy the new tracks as much as we did making them. 🙂

Lobate Scarp is excited to play at next year’s RoSfest, one of America’s premier progressive rock festival which will take place in Sarasota, Florida. May 8-10.  We are honored to have been invited to play along with such bands such as Big Big Train, Pattern-Seeking Animals, Moon Letters, and Dilemma. Needless to say, we have lots of work ahead of ourselves and we are looking forward to keeping everyone updated with new music, merch, and other assorted goodies. Keep in touch!
 Peace, Love, and Prog!

Plane Groovy to re-issue Big Big Train’s English Electric Part One and Part Two

Plane Groovy is very excited to announce the re-release of English Electric Part One on double heavyweight colored vinyl (transparent light blue). Pre-ordering is now live at Burning Shed with a release date of 18 October 2019.

This edition is unnumbered. There has been strong demand for a rerelease of the album, from those who have either come slightly late to the party, or those who have only recently (re?)adopted the vinyl format.

We felt it important to clearly differentiate between the long out of print first pressings and these new versions, but that it was important to retain the integrity of the artwork so that as a package it fits in on the BBT shelf! There are a couple of changes which should be mentioned: Firstly, due to the planned vinyl release of The Underfall Yard in 2020, we’ve changed the bonus tracks on Side 4 as you can see from the image below.

Of note, this version of Seen Better Days, recorded at Real World Studios, features Tim Bowness as guest vocalist. Secondly, the audio has been remastered by Rob Aubrey to offer an even wider dynamic range than last time. As a result of these changes, the album has been given a different catalog number and barcode since this edition is demonstrably “different” from the original release.

450 copies will be available through Burning Shed, the remaining 50 copies will be available from Nellie at The Merch Desk, for those attending the upcoming live concerts.

Plane Groovy is also very excited to announce the re-release of English Electric Part Two on double heavyweight colored vinyl (transparent orange).

Pre-ordering is now live at Burning Shed with a release date of 18 October 2019. This edition is unnumbered.

The tracklisting is identical to the original release, however, the audio has been remastered by Rob Aubrey to offer an even wider dynamic range than last time. This album has the same catalog number. and barcode as the original release, since audio mastering is the only real change.

450 copies will be available through Burning Shed, the remaining 50 copies will be available from Nellie at The Merch Desk, for those attending the upcoming live concerts.
