Hailing from the Southeast of the United Kingdom, melodic yet progressive rock act The Room is thrilled to announce their signing to White Star Records, the label owned and operated by Chris Hillman and John Mitchell. This announcement comes shortly after White Star Records added London prog rock outfit Quantum Pig to their growing roster of artists. Both bands now join a label that currently houses the likes of Voices From The Fuselage, Kepler Ten and The Paradox Twin.
Chris Hillman details the journey leading toward this signing event:
“I’d been aware of The Room for some time and became very impressed with their musicianship, however, the thing that really won me over was this huge step up in their melodic, anthemic quality. It feels like The Room is growing and developing with every album, and I find many of their melodies going around in my head after listening – real “earworms” that I think will resonate with a large audience. Get ready for some quality prog with sticky, memorable moments!”
Along with their signing announcement, The Room has simultaneously unveiled early details of a new studio album. Their upcoming third full-length is titled ‘Caught By The Machine’ and will be released on 22nd February 2019. Ahead of this release, the sextet is giving fans and newcomers a taste of things to come with their first video single for the track ‘Broken’.
Binding a broad range of musical influences into a distinct and nostalgic sound, smart songwriting and captivating melodies form the foundation of The Room’s musical core. ‘Broken’ proves no exception, but don’t let it’s bright, foot-tapping, major-key guitar riffing fool you – there’s more to the single than meets the eye…
“I had to think long and hard about how ‘Broken’ was to be approached,” explains vocalist Martin Wilson. “I’d always wanted to play with the idea that most problems people have been brought on by themselves; Wrong life decisions, bad investments, excessive drink, and drugs abuse, mistreatment of others and so on. Often, I have found that people in these positions are the first to complain, but the last to admit fault.”
“With ‘Broken’, the instrumental backdrop is uplifting, with this jaunty feel to it, but I wanted to find something different – a juxtaposition if you like – to the lyrics, adding a little more intrigue to the song. So we’ve got this upbeat instrumental backing, while the lyrics offer a slightly darker picture. Spiraling out of control because of one’s own actions, how life can crash over negativity you’ve brought on yourself and so on…and yet you still complain and pass blame.”
The Room unashamedly admits that they wrote “Broken” as something of a challenge to themselves. All too aware of the modern specifics of genre definition, the band hoped to be able to break prog traditions, writing a three-minute, mainstream song that would merge the great melodies and broad choruses of prog, whilst remaining radio-friendly and accessible.
Despite the strong narrative of ‘Broken’, The Room recognized the bounce and drive of the single and wanted to bring this to life even more with a quirky, fun music video, shot at the 2018 Cambridge Rock Festival by MHG Music Videos.

Album Info
The album contains an introduction and five unreleased tracks that summarize the style of the components. Entirely self-produced and edited by the members of the group, in fact, all the phases of composition, recording, mixing and mastering were treated in by the band itself.
The graphics of the disk is instead of Mauro Mondiello.
On the record, five stories are told based on imagination and fantasy, which musically describe five fantastic worlds in which to transport the listener.
They range from the most acoustic sounds of “Il mendicante” up to the more artificial and futuristic “crop circles”.
Various instruments are used: in addition to drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, voices, and flute, are also used strings (violin and double bass), percussions of all types and sounds of various objects and devices ( registered and processed).
The only guest on the album is Sara Cuzzupoli, who played the violin in “Il mendicante” and sung in the choirs of “Lux et Ombra”.
The album is inspired by the progressive masterpieces of the 70s, but also incorporates influences of neo-prog and many other genres, due to the varied and heterogeneous background of the musicians involved.
Jaclyn Bradley Palmer is releasing the music video “O’ Holy Night,” her duet with Holland’s Broadway actor Jeroen Robben (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST). The song appears on her new holiday album, DECEMBER.
There’s the warmth of brother in “O’ Holy Night.” The video takes place in a church built in the 1200s in the Netherlands. It moves from black and white to color and features Jaclyn and Jeroen blending their trained and comforting voices, plus her friends harmonizing in the background. ”My musical friends,” the magnanimous Jaclyn says. “They hail from 7 different countries, and they’re all different, but coming together in harmony. I’ve always made artistic friends wherever I lived (Cleveland, LA, New York, Holland, now Ireland). I always had a community, thanks to music and art. “
The changing of black & white into color, Jaclyn explains, “signifies the light and beauty that comes from the holiday season. By using one take (after the introduction footage), we allow viewers to enter the ancient church and experience the song as if they were a fly on the wall, inviting them into the middle of a very special moment in time.”
Jaclyn enjoyed working with Jeroen, whom she met on the set of the Voice Holland.
He came to her house to watch the episode they were on together. But he had to sing to Jaclyn’s 4-year old daughter for his supper because he played “The Beast.” “She was absolutely mesmerized to have a real Disney character in her living room!”
December is Jaclyn Bradley Palmer’s 4th studio album release, and in the Americana Singer-Songwriter Genre.
Palmer received her vocal training in opera from Indiana University and later became a singer-songwriter in Los Angeles where her music was licensed for TV and film. The new record, which combines holiday classics with original compositions, is a nod to her diverse musical background. “I have been longing to create a holiday album for many years and am so happy with the result,” shared Palmer. “Every winter, the music of Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis filled my house and really made the home feel like Christmas. I wanted to contribute to this musical tradition of bringing on holiday cheer in the same way.”
Jaclyn Bradley Palmer’s new Christmas album, DECEMBER is available for download and streaming on mediums such as iTunes, Amazon, Spotify. The album (as well as Jaclyn’s catalog) can be purchased through the artist’s website: www.jaclynbradleypalmer.com.
On iTunes, Amazon, all digital stores for a special price of $7.92!
