Keegan / Meros / Leonard / Boegehold, join forces in new band
PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS is the brand new quartet featuring the talents of current & former Spock’s Beard members Ted Leonard, Jimmy Keegan & Dave Meros as well as long-time contributing songwriter-producer John Boegehold. The band has signed to InsideOutMusic for the release of their self-titled debut album on July 5th, 2019.
Of the musical direction, Boegehold comments: “My goal was to produce music that’s progressive and intricate while keeping things immediate and melodic. Whether a song is four minutes or ten minutes long, I didn’t want more than a few bars go by without some kind of instrumental or vocal hook.”
Originally a vehicle for a few tracks John had been working on in early 2018, he quickly came up with enough music to work towards producing an album. With that in mind, he enlisted the talents of Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Ted Leonard (vocals & guitar) & Dave Meros (bass), with Boegehold handling all the synths. He adds: “Besides live strings on a few songs and a female backing vocalist on another, it was all done between the four of us with Dave and Ted ending up as co-writers on some of the material.”
With the band obviously being closely associated with Spock’s Beard, John was conscious of exploring different avenues with Pattern-Seeking Animals, whether it was song structures, vocal arrangements, synth sounds or emotional textures. “Pattern-Seeking Animals was a clean slate so I found myself drawing on a few different musical influences and using some contemporary production ideas and sounds that I probably wouldn’t use with SB for various reasons.”
The album will be released on limited CD digipak, gatefold 2LP + CD & as digital album.
As John notes, as the project came together it quickly became apparent that they would want to take this material out live: “Originally it was intended to be a recording project but as it was coming together we started talking seriously about doing it as a live band. Because of the complexity of a lot of the material, it’ll require an additional musician or two to pull it off live. The plan is to tour as much as possible and to come out with a new album at least once a year. In fact, work on the second album is already well under way.”
Stay tuned for a first taste of music from Pattern-Seeking Animals in the coming weeks!
RIVERSIDE have just completed their European tour in support of their latest album ‘Wasteland’, and now prepare to head to North America in May for their biggest tour in the continent to date.
The band had to this to say about the tour:
“Wasteland Tour 2018/2019 has definitely been our best one yet in very many respects. The autumn edition of 2018 was our greatest success and this year’s spring leg has only added to that. It was really lovely to meet all of our friends and we’d like to thank you here for your support, devotion, and loyalty. It was also a great pleasure to meet those of you who came to our shows for the first time. A lot of you are quite young (not only at heart!), which means we must be doing alright 🙂 All in all, we’ve received a massive load of positive energy and made memories that will stay with us for ever.
Meanwhile, we’re getting ready for our biggest tour in the USA and Canada. Hey, you, on the other side of the Pond, do you still remember us? 🙂
Our warmest regards to all of you. Thanks for being with us”

Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by the producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (Kino, Frost*, Arena, It Bites), is set to release their new album ‘Under Stars’ – due out 26th April 2019. Today sees the launch of the video for the albums second single, ‘How Bright Is the Sun ?’, which you can watch here:
John comments: “How Bright Is The Sun? A cheery lament to our beautiful star. How much longer will she burn for? Will we even be around for half that time? Questions within questions. I hope you like it.”
It was recently announced that Lonely Robot will be teaming up with Space Rocks for a special launch event to celebrate the release of the new studio album. The event will take place on the 23rd April at the Everyman Cinema in King’s Cross, London, and will see John take part in a special Q&A session with Space Rocks co-founder Alexander Milas, discussing the influence of space and science fiction on his trilogy of albums under the Lonely Robot name. This will be followed by a talk by Space Rocks partner and European Space Agency (ESA) Senior Advisor for Science & Exploration, Mark McCaughrean. The event will feature an exclusive advance playback of the new album in full, accompanied by special imagery created using visuals inspired by the work of the European Space Agency.
John comments: “Space and science fiction permeate throughout the trilogy of Lonely Robot albums and with Space Rocks, I can’t think of better people to team up with to celebrate the release of the final part of the astronaut’s story. It should be a very special evening.”
Space Rocks co-founder Alexander Milas adds: “As headliners of our inaugural Space Rocks event in London last year, Lonely Robot and John are the personification of that inexorable link between art, music, and the great beyond. His music is the perfect bridge between those worlds. Roll on the 23rd!” For more info head to www.spacerocksofficial.com
Lonely Robot recently launched a video for ‘Ancient Ascendant’, the first single from the new album. Watch it now here: https://youtu.be/zwf-bm-sd3Y
The album once again features drums by long-time collaborator Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson), plus bass contributions from Steve Vantsis (Fish), with all other instrumentation on the album delivered by Mitchell himself.
Of the record, John comments: “It is the final part in the astronaut trilogy, and was recorded over an intensive month and a half period. This time I wanted to reference my love of 80’s synthwave pop a little more, so beware the 808! The title is derived from belief that we as humans spend far too much time not noticing the beauty around us and far too much time tethered to technology.”
‘Under Stars’ will be released as a limited edition digipak CD (featuring 3 bonus tracks), gatefold 2LP + CD & as digital album. Pre-order now here: www.insideoutmusicshop.com

(Cosmic Mix)* CD / digital bonus track13.Under Stars (Cosmic Mix)* CD / digital bonus track14.Lonely Robot – Chapter One – Airlock* CD / digital bonus track ‘Under Stars’ is the final album in a trilogy for Lonely Robot, John Mitchell’s visionary project. This began in 2015 with the ‘Please Come Home’ album and continued two years later with ”The Big Dream’. “I always saw this as a trilogy, and it feels like the third part of the Lonely Robot master plan has reached a natural conclusion.”
As with the two previous albums, there is a theme running across the songs here, as Mitchell explains. “On ‘Please Come Home’, the theme was about the idea that life on Earth didn’t originate from this planet, while for ‘The Big Dream’, I was really giving everyone the benefit of Zen musings according to John Mitchell. This time things are a little more down to earth. What I am doing is looking the millennial generation, and the fact that kids today are so tied to their phones and to technology. They really have no clue what is actually going on around them, and I find that worrying.”
John Mitchell is a man with a rich musical heritage and history – from musician and vocalist, to songwriter and producer. With bands like Arena, Frost*, Kino, It Bites and Lonely Robot, to name but a few, Mitchell has left his mark on the current progressive rock scene and has been involved in dozens of recordings. He is also a respected producer & mixer, running Outhouse Studios in the UK and working with artists as diverse as You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Alter Bridge, Asia, Don Broco, Funeral For A Friend, McFly & much more.
Swedish alternative rockers PORT NOIR are set to release their new album, ‘The New Routine’ on May 10th, 2019, their first for InsideOutMusic and the beginning of a new sound for the band.
Today they are pleased to launch the latest single, ‘Champagne’, the third track to be taken from the album. Watch the lyric video here:
The band comments: “For a long time we’ve been wanting to do something in the way of Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore’s project One Day as a Lion. Confident and powerful yet minimalistic with distorted analog synthesizers and pushy drums taking the lead role. However, we wanted to change things up with some melodic vocals and do our own thing. We believe we created something unique with ‘Champagne’ and it is just what this scene needs.”
The band recently launched a video for the track ‘Young Bloods’. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/57iP20jBEh8
The new album sees the trio blending old-school rock with contemporary pop, R&B and hip-hop in a creative and minimalistic fashion. Inspired by bands such as Rage Against the Machine, Death from Above 1979, The Weeknd, Daft Punk, Queens of the Stone Age, ‘The New Routine’ is direct, energetic and intense.
‘The New Routine’ will be available as CD, LP + CD & as digital album, and is now available to pre-order here: https://PortNoir.lnk.to/TheNewRoutine

Consisting of Love Andersson (bass, vocals), AW Wiberg (drums) and Andreas Hollstrand (guitar, keys and backing vocals) they’re a band that’s been around since 2011. During the years they’ve toured and played extensively through Europe supporting In Flames, Pain of Salvation, and Karnivool to name a few.
Their last album ‘Any Way The Wind Carries’ was released in 2016, with Metal Hammer UK commenting that it combined “aching melody with shuddering depth.” Recorded with Daniel Bergstrand, at a small mountain village in southern Spain instead of their native Sweden, ‘Any Way the Wind Carries’ was another bold statement from a band that defies pigeonholing in favour of embracing a vast array of influences and distilling these into smartly arranged, concise songs.

SOTO, the modern Heavy Metal / Hard Rock group featuring vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (ex Yngwie Malmsteen / Talisman / ex Journey, Sons Of Apollo, TSO, etc.), recently announced signing a new worldwide deal with InsideOutMusic.
Now they are pleased to reveal their new, third studio album ‘Origami‘ which will be released May 24th, 2019, and to celebrate they have launched the records first Single.
Watch the lyric video (Created by Cloud Music Typography) for ‘BeLie‘ now here:
SOTO comment about “BeLie“ from JSS as follows: “This is a song co-written with a long time collaborator of mine in Brazil, Leo Mancini, along with my drummer Edu Cominato. It had a very ‘Operation Mindcrime’ vibe to it musically when they presented me with the song so I knew I had to really think outside the box in making it not sound like a Queensryche song in the end. I love the middle section as it presents our new bassist, Tony Dickinson, to the world as a much needed entity in the band after losing our boy David Z. It serves as a great launching pad for ‘Origami’.”
‘Origami’ will be released as a limited digipak CD with a set of 3 stickers and a bonus track, 180g vinyl LP including the entire album on CD, and as a digital download. The album comes packaged with classy artwork by Gustavo Sazes (Machine Head, Amaranthe, Arch Enemy). Pre-order now here: https://SOTO.lnk.to/Origami
The full track-listing of ’Origami‘ is as follows:
1.HyperMania 2.Origami 3.BeLie 4.World Gone Colder 5.Detonate 6.Torn 7.Dance With The Devil 8.AfterGlow 9.Vanity Lane 10.Give In To Me 11.KMAG * (Bonus Track)
SOTO started in 2015 derived from the ideal of Jeff Scott Soto wanting to return to his heavier roots. So far they released 2 albums, “Inside The Vertigo“ (2015) and “DIVAK“ (2016), taking a short break while Jeff embarked on the supergroup Sons Of Apollo, alongside Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan and Bumblefoot.
Now SOTO are returning under the same umbrella as Sons Of Apollo, signing with InsideOutMusic. The new album “Origami“ contains material that continues to expand and move the band towards new heights whilst following up with their brand of Power Rock.
SOTO will hit South America for live dates in May and intend to be touring worldwide throughout 2019 following the release of the new album.
