Thank You Scientist set to return to RoSfest as headliners

It is a sheer pleasure to announce that Thank You Scientist will return to RoSfest on Sunday, May 10th, 2020 as our third headliner since we feel they easily merit this position. The band had a killer performance when they played for us back in 2014 and we know their performance will be even better when they return in 2020.

Following years of delivering one vital album after the other, they are now headlining most of their tours and recently concluding a summer tour with Bent Knee who was opening for them. They are also touring internationally as they recently headlined a mini-tour in England, as well as opening for Coheed & Cambria while playing in the United Kingdom. In short, Thank You Scientist’s brand of eclectic, challenging and dynamic progressive rock is catching on towards an ever-increasing audience. Their most recent album, “Terraformer” (2019), hit the top 10 sales on iTunes earlier this year and they sold more copies of their special advance pre-order version of that album than most progressive rock bands have as total sales of their releases. Thank You Scientist is going places and doing so very quickly which is why they deserved a headlining spot at RoSfest. A festival should always conclude on a high note and with Thank You Scientist, we know that this will indeed be the case for the 2020 edition of RoSfest.

This rounds up the lineup for 2020.CAST – BIG BIG TRAIN – THANK YOU SCIENTIST DILEMMA – PATTERN SEEKING ANIMALS – UPF – THE TEA CLUB – lOBATE SCARP – MOON LETTERS – ARC IRISRoSFest / Thank You Scientist News Release

BENT KNEE launch new single “Catch Light”

Photo: Rich Ferri

Boston-based art-rock band Bent Knee are pleased to announce their brand new single “Catch Light”, the first new music to arrive from their forthcoming new studio album out later this year. This comes on top of the beginning of their North American tour alongside Thank You Scientist.

The band comments: “Catch Light is about the pressure women feel to shrink themselves and their ideas. The song is the culmination of over a year of collaborative sonic experiments and marks a drastically new direction for the band. More to come.”

Listen to ‘Catch Light’ here:

The band’s full list of upcoming North American live dates can be found below:

11th June – Buffalo Iron Works, Buffalo, NY
12th June – Mahall’s, Lakewood, OH
13th June – Pyramid Scheme, Grand Rapids, MI

15th June – The Citadel Music Hall, Indianapolis, IN

Earlier in the year, Bent Knee embarked on their first, extensive, European tour alongside label-mates Haken and Danish act VOLA. To coincide with this they launched a video for the track ‘Boxes’, taken from their last album ‘Land Animal’. Watch the video for ‘Boxes’ now here: https://youtu.be/T3Zkqgw33vk

Bent Knee formed in Boston in 2009 as a democratic collective determined to push the boundaries of pop and rock, combing myriad influences into a seamless, thrilling whole. Lead singer and keyboardist Courtney Swain’s soaring vocals are instantly arresting. Guitarist Ben Levin is one of the most dynamic and versatile guitarists around, shifting between the raging and raucous to the sublime and meditative. Bassist Jessica Kion and drummer Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth combine into an enthralling rhythm section that’s equal parts powerhouse and nuance. Chris Baum’s kinetic violin work provides drama, grace, and intrigue. World-class producer and live sound designer Vince Welch weave’s it all together with a captivating, expert touch. Fiercely innovative, the group bridges the gap between the experimental and the familiar, merging texture and style into music that’s moving, addictive, and unapologetically original. The band has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Their last three albums, 2017’s Land Animal, 2016’s Say So and 2014’s Shiny Eyed Babies, were hailed as significant art-rock achievements, and the band continues to be garnished with praise for their live show, performing hundreds of concerts worldwide to date.

Thank You Scientist Release First New Song in Three Years; Drop Solar-powered “FXMLDR” Video via PROG

New album ‘Terraformer’ due out June 14th; Exclusive Pre-order available now

New Spring tour kicks off April 12th in New Jersey and wraps up May 19th.

American Alt-Prog rock masters Thank You Scientist are proud to present today, “FXMLDR,” which premiered this morning via PROG, and is the lead off track from their forthcoming 84-minute full length album, “Terraformer.”

“The video is a special LIVE performance of FXMLDR, recorded using 100% solar power, courtesy of our friends at THE SUN LAB. If you’re the observant type, you may notice a few hundred extra band members. With some frantic planning (and even more frantic arranging), we were able to meet up with DCI world champions THE BLUE COATS for this very special performance.”  The band started a relationship with The Blue Coats after they performed several TYS compositions for their 2017 concert season.

Last week, Thank You Scientist announced their 4th studio album, “Terraformer,” will be out June 14th on Evil Ink Records.  An Exclusive Comprehensive Adult Bundle of “Terraformer” with Limited Edition 2 LP Color Vinyl, exclusive Music Score and Trading Cards is available for pre-order now at www.thankyouscientist.com

You can see the solar-powered live performance for “FXMLDR” here:

The album version of “FXMLDR” will be on all DSPS starting next week.

Guitarist Tom Monda about the album: “This album probably features some of Sal’s most personal lyrics, juxtaposed with some far reaching and topical stuff that is new for us.  There are conceptual threads linking the music and lyrics but we prefer that the listeners discover and interpret them on their own. Terraforming in really general terms is taking a planet or some type of celestial body and making it inhabitable for humans. I thought this was a fitting metaphor for the band, in terms of the changes we had gone through in the past two years.  I felt totally creatively renewed, and I think scope of the album speaks to that.”

Terraformer is the band’s second studio release on the label formed by Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez and is the band’s most ambitious to date. The album features more than an hour and 20 minutes on a 2-disc set.

Terraformer was recorded at The Barber Shop in Hopatcong NJ and engineer Mike Ferretti’s studio in Ringwood, NJ. Main songwriter and guitarist Tom Monda oversaw production, along with contributions from the band.

The front cover was designed by Templar, who also designed the album art for the group’s previous record Stranger Heads Prevail.

“We’re really excited about this new album. We’ve put in so much work into this limited bundle to make sure it’s perfect, and we hope our fans agree and help us crush our release week. We’re a bunch of weirdos making music for weirdos that still care about weird music, and I think that’s a beautiful thing.” – Tom Monda

The album marks the first recordings of the Thank You Scientist’s new lineup, which includes Joe Fadem on drums, Sam Greenfield on Sax, and Joe Gullace on trumpet.

“The new members were all guys that myself, Ben, and Cody play with in Cody’s band ‘We Used to Cut The Grass.’  They were all a big part of the writing and arranging process for this album and I feel very lucky to be in a band with them.” – Monda
