Prog Ensemble Circuline’s highly anticipated new album “C.O.R.E.” will be released on the Inner Nova Music label on September 20th, 2024. Circuline’s 2024 “C.O.R.E.” Virtual Tour began Friday, January 12th, 2024, and will consist of 57 events in 48 weeks, with Single releases, Lyric videos, Official videos, “Behind the Scenes” videos, and Livestream Q&A events where the band is able to connect with their fans around the world.
Says keyboardist Andrew Colyer, “With this international virtual tour, we have two goals: 1.) We want to get our music exposed to as many people as possible, to continue to grow our fan base worldwide. 2.) We want to deepen our relationships with the fans who are the most passionate. Releasing singles, lyric videos, and Official Videos accomplishes the first goal, and by doing these in-depth, ‘Behind the Scenes’ videos, we accomplish the second goal. Packaging everything together into a single 12-month celebration of the new album will hopefully capture more attention for future opportunities for live performing and touring, with this fantastic new lineup.”
Circuline’s “C.O.R.E.” was written and recorded between 2018 and 2023, for this album the band wanted to keep all the writing “in-house”. So, the majority of the material was written by Andrew, Darin, and Natalie. Billy Spillane had input into almost every song, before he decided it was time to move on. Two of the songs were co-written with Matt Dorsey, who is still a good friend and colleague of the band’s – Andrew will be performing with his band at the International ProgStock Festival this year. Alek Darson had invaluable input during the writing and arranging stages. Shelby and Dave brought new perspectives and their own unique artistry to these songs, and the band couldn’t be happier with the result. The icing on the cake is to have good friend Joe Deninzon (Kansas, Stratospheerius) as a Guest Artist for some killer electric violin parts!
Says Andrew, “Since the music is the easiest part of the writing for us, we focused on the Songwriting – the lyrics and melodies. That’s the hardest part for us, which is one of the many reasons it took so long to finish the record. We are natural “long-form storytellers”, with most of our songs in the past being six to eight minutes long. Our intention is to appeal to a wider audience, which often means shorter attention spans, so we challenged ourselves to write some shorter, “radio-friendly, pop-rock” songs. We also wanted to write some faster songs, since our default in the past has been in the mid-tempo, more mellow range. So, we accomplished that. I got my ‘power ballad anthem’ in there. Of course, our influences of modern and classic progressive rock, such as YES, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Steven Wilson, and Gong, are also represented. It’s definitely an eclectic album.”
Track Listing 1) Tempus Horribilis (6:22) – out of the gate, a proggy epic about the turbulent times we’ve been living in….. 2) Third Rail (4:20) – a short-form song about the hazardous topics in relationships….. 3) Say Their Name (6:18) – think “Steven Wilson meets Pierre Moerlin’s Gong”….. 4) All (7:54) – co-written with Matt Dorsey, it’s a prog epic in 9….. 5) Temporal Thing (5:51) – a song about the ambivalence that can present in long-term relationships….. 6) You (6:22) – dark, man….. 7) Blindside (6:08) – co-written with Matt Dorsey, it’s your power ballad anthem….. 8) Transmission Error (9:23) – another song about relationships, “finding yourself”, or space creatures. We still can’t decide. It’s your 10-minute prog epic to close the album!

Refestramus New Music Video “Side Hustle” will premier on YouTube Friday, July 12th at 7:00 PM Central Standard Time.
“Side Hustle” is the 6th track from the latest album “Intouríst” the song tells a story of workplace attraction and temptation, blending sensuality and intrigue. An extended metaphor. Since the music is clearly Tull-inspired, I figured I’d do a lyric like Ian Anderson might have done in the late ‘80s. In a bit of a much-needed modernization, though, it is purposefully gender-neutral. – Derek Ferguson
“Side Hustle” exemplifies Refestramus’s ability to create music that is both innovative and deeply resonant. Its critical and fan acclaim underscores its importance in the band’s discography and highlights the band’s continuous evolution in their artistic journey.
The single features: Ian Beabout — Flute, Derek Ferguson – Drums, Nathan James – Lead Vocals, Bass Derek Pavlic – Guitars, Rogelio Souza – Keys Mitch Lawrence – Saxes
Monica Pop returns as the Librarian/Accountant/Muse in the music video.
“Side Hustle” appears on “Intourist” the third album by Refestramus, released May 3rd, 2024, a testament to the band’s innovative spirit and musical craftsmanship. Its release has not only cemented their place in contemporary music but has also set a high bar for their future endeavors. Fans and newcomers alike are drawn to the album’s depth and the journey it offers through its evocative tracks.
Following this year’s Cruise To The Edge, Big Big Train travelled to Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana to take part in a recording and mixing session run by Sweetwater chief engineer Shawn Dealey. This session gave the band an opportunity to record an alternative version of Last Eleven, the closing song on this year’s acclaimed The Likes Of Us studio album. You can listen to the Sweetwater version of Last Eleven, which has been mixed by Shawn.

hawn has previously worked with artists including Steve Hackett, Spock’s Beard, Animals As Leaders, Counting Crows, Jared James Nichols, Bootsy Collins, Beth Hart and many more. You can read more about Shawn here: https://sweetwaterstudios.com/about-us/
Lead vocalist Alberto Bravin comments: “Having rehearsed at Sweetwater before our USA shows and Cruise To The Edge in March, it was wonderful to return there for a recording session. It was interesting to take an alternative approach to Last Eleven, which differs significantly from the version released on The Likes Of Us album. We really enjoyed working with Shawn in Sweetwater’s amazing studios and hope to return there again in the future.”
Drummer Nick D’Virgilio adds: “I really get into how songs make me feel and this version of Last Eleven, with its mellow beginning, has such a great vibe to it. Not that the original has anything wrong with it at all! I just like how the story in the song now comes across. It starts mellow, revs up and gets powerful, then ends mellow again. It also showcases some wonderful vocals.”
Guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjöblom says: “We had this idea to take it down in the first verse, which I think turned out really sweet! I ended up doing the intro on acoustic guitar, with Oskar [Holldorff, keyboards] on Fender Rhodes and Clare [Lindley] adding some nice violin lines, which turned Last Eleven into a different song for me. I also played some electric baritone guitar later in the song too, which added some further flavour to the overall sound. I think I like this new version even better than the original!”

About “Coscienza Cibernetica” The song captures the essence of our current millennium, portraying a modern individual as a stark reminder of humanity’s gradual slide into dehumanization. In this narrative, the protagonist—central to both the song and the accompanying book—feels “sottomesso” (subjugated) and “prigioniero” (imprisoned) by an “electronic conscience,” symbolizing a life constrained and marginalized by technology.
Through the song’s journey, we explore the deep suffering and isolating nature of this technological solitude. It highlights the façade of “knowledge” that hides behind screens, often presenting a reality that is distorted or non-existent. As the song progresses, it culminates in a powerful cry asserting that humanity is, and will always be, “figlio della terra” (children of the earth). This declaration resonates with the overarching themes of the concept album “A mezz’aria sul tempo,” where the compositions traverse the realms of Head and Heart, Man and Earth, and Nature and Humanity.
We wish you a good journey and happy listening. Thanks, Overture.

According toKscope: The Radicant’s debut EP, We Ascend, showcases the adept musicianship and expressive voice that Vincent Cavanagh honed over 11 albums with the legendary alt-rock band Anathema. This year, Cavanagh will share his first music under The Radicant moniker with the highly anticipated debut EP We Ascend. The EP’s influences span a wide sonic spectrum, from the propulsive drum and bass rhythms of lead single ‘Zero Blue’ to the cinematic electronica on ‘Stowaway’, the EP’s second single.
The Radicant embodies Vincent Cavanagh’s artistic philosophy. Inspired by a term used in botany and by art curator Nicolas Bourriaud, “radicant” describes organisms that create their roots gradually as they advance, allowing species to mobilize, adapt, and grow on any surface.
Vincent Cavanagh is currently in the studio working on his debut album as The Radicant, set for release next year.”

In 2022, the Captain released his fourth album, the absolutely amazing ‘Hidden Gems Chapter 3 – Mysterium Tremendum’ which I gave maximum marks to and declared it to be a “review killer” in that once it hit my player, I was unable to listen to anything else, greatly reducing my output for a time. It has taken longer than expected for Shaun to come back with his next album, because he and his family were the innocent victims of a road traffic accident where someone fleeing police drove into their car. It has taken eighteen very long months for everyone to work through the physical and mental injuries, which also had a huge impact on them in other ways, as Shaun is a working musician as opposed to someone doing this as a hobby. Through these terrible times, the Captain still had the need to create music, albeit in a very slow, labored, and somewhat sedate ‘late-night fashion’. Musically this is a very different release to what we have come to expect from him, far more thoughtful and reflective, with less energy, but more power and emotion. He provides vocals, bouzouki, mandolin and guitar, and here he has been joined by Damian Clark (keyboards, synthesizers, sound design) and Wendy Ross (violins). We find the Captain taking his alternative folk roots, with all songs having his acoustic instrumentation at the base, and then lifting them into something quite different which brings in both progressive and ambient styling. What is so hugely impressive with this release is the sheer presence of the man, he has created a swirling soundscape where he is at the very center, somehow imbuing a sense of being and self into a world here that presence is often fleeting and passing. He is rooted, and the music is at times ethereal and magical, a gossamer web of strands being brought together in an incredible manner. At any time, this would be a remarkable release, but knowing what he was going through makes this truly something incredible and essential. The way he moves his vocals into clear falsetto is like no-one else I know, and there is clear direction and purpose, a single-minded laser vision of taking us on a journey, to where we know not. Since I first came across COTLW and ‘Hidden Gems Chapter 1’ in 2016 I have loved all his works, and is someone unique in the current scene, quite unlike anyone else around, yet at the same time he is wonderfully approachable and everyone I have played his music to wonders where he has been all their lives and why they have not previously come across the artist. In this plastic, disposable, transient and permanently connected artificial world the reason is simple, Captain of the Lost Waves is a man out of time. His music is rich, thoughtful, deliberate and designed to last for eons. Like rich swamp kauri it is full of depth and passion, something which people want to touch and cherish, and hold close to their hearts. A remarkable person has released a remarkable album, and the only reason I give this 10/10 is that mathematically I can’t give it anymore. Incredible. Kev Rowland

Charcoal Grace is the 6th studio album of the band, and it combines raw rock power with immense emotional depth. Charcoal Grace is borne of the static hopelessness that the pandemic forced upon the band and, indeed, much of the world, these past few years. It is an album reckoning with the experiences and outcomes of this time geared, ultimately, towards catharsis – moving towards a more hopeful future.
“Caligula’s Horse expand upon their palette and vision with an admirable confidence and clarity of purpose” – Prog Magazine
“Whether you’re a returning follower or a newcomer, you’ll surely find Charcoal Grace to be a deeply impressive and thoughtful journey from one of today’s greatest genre torchbearers.” – Metal Injection
‘Wherever You May Go’ is the second video out of ‘Eternal Snapshots’. This version of the song is shortened to make it more “video friendly and more to the point maybe. The reason for that is the tempo of today, where many of us wants a “quick fix” generally speaking. If you’re looking for positivity, a nice flow and many major chords, look no further. Here’s ‘Wherever You May Go’. The video was made by Dario and Gabriel Mekler.
The idea of forming a new band started sometime in 2008, says Hasse: “I had a handful of new songs, and more were coming regularly.” The idea started to take shape and in 2009 Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion (in short: HFMC) started to play and prepare for what later became their debut album “FuturePast” (2010).
Hasse is well known for his contribution for more than two decades as singer/guitarist in The Flower Kings, as well as his work with the Swedish hard rock band Spellbound during the eighties.
The band members have played together with names like Glenn Hughes, Michael Schenker, Jeff Scott Soto, Joe Lynn Turner amongst others… HFMC has a warm and unique sound of their own with influences from progressive rock, classic rock and even a hint of pop.
2024 marks the forty-year anniversary since Hasse released his first full length album. What can be better to celebrate forty years as a recording artist than to release a new one?
The new HFMC record ‘Eternal Snapshots‘ is the band’s sixth studio album. It’s a concept album that deals with questions such as how do we become who we are. Is everything predetermined? Is destiny involved in our lives? The title ‘Eternal Snapshots’ reflects over the fact that new fate of lives is being born every second and here we get to follow two of them.Online:
