• OH.’s debut EP Sleeping World released in February 2013 – with the title track “Trials – a song for a lost generation won an international video contest.
Reviewers have compared the timbre of her voice to Sharon Den Adel and Anneke Van Giesbergen, others to Happy Rhodes and a cross between Kate Bush and Tori Amos. They emphasized her quite unique style, as one said, “she defies analysis somewhat as Queensryche” with a distinctive sound of her own.
Track from BABAL’s 4th album “THE CIRCLE OF CONFUSION OF TONGUES” to be released in 2018 on Melodic Revolution Records.
Karen Langley – vocals
Rob Williams – guitars/synthesis
Jon Sharp – drums
Zoie Green – keyboards
Ben Balsom – bass
Short Bio
Capturing the angst of 21st Century Britain with Karen Langley’s sharply observed lyrics, laced with the manically haunting guitars of Rob Williams and enhanced by Zoie Green’s trippy keyboards, plus groove drivers Ben Balsom on bass and Jon Sharp on electronic drums, BABAL deliver a theatrical, barbed performance that defies categorization.
BABAL reveal a dystopian, sideways view of life; their psych/art-rock approach calling up comparisons with Talking Heads, Zappa, Beefheart, Hendrix and Patti Smith among many. The band have gathered great responses from the UK and Europe and have also played live soundtracks for Alternative Cinema presentations.
Karen Langleys’ sharp lyrics and powerfully fluid vocals soar over groove-driven soundscapes and songs, meshed with blistering guitars.
Their latest album was released in April 2016 “Singular Adventures in Post-Modern Capitalism”
Their 4th album “The Circle of Confusion of Tongues” is due to be released in early 2018
Some of the festivals played in 2017:
Beautiful Days, Kozfest, Feral Fest, On Board the Craft, Phoenix Alt-Fest, 15th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus Psych Fest, Sistafest, Alice’s Wicked Tea Party, Hastrek, Tannerfest
Charming, alarming and serving up improvisational chunks of beauty between slices of rich vocals, the ever-evolving BABAL mix groove-based rock with strange, enigmatic lyrics and blistering rhythms, topped by stunning guitars.
Driven by soaring vocal dynamics, and twisting into vibrant guitar soundscapes, BABAL’s music is underpinned by a stronghold of bass and drums. BABAL morph from dark to light, shadow to shiny, leaving a trail of sparkling crescendos, bold rhythms and provoking lyrics. The band move easily between improvised, poetic fusion mixes to theatrical, political, hard-hitting pieces that express the satirical, eccentric core of the BABALONEONS themselves – each one a virtuoso; united they create an intricate web of passionate, vibrant music.
Electric Violinist & Singer Joe Deninzon Amplifies Muse’s Passionate Song
HYSTERIA is a Wagnerian/Queen-esque cover of Muse’s 2003 hit. The song is going to be on the upcoming Stratospheerius album, GUILTY OF INNOCENCE, out September 29 on Melodic Revolution Records, the leading North American progressive rock record label.
The Video was Directed by musician Dave Milone (of Radio 4), the video for HYSTERIA features a dramatic performance of the band punctuated with explosions. Deninzon says the explosions represent “Someone who has had enough! Feeling hopeless frustration with the current state of the world, breaking out of a bad relationship, or someone held back from their dreams and ambitions, a prisoner in their mind or in a literal sense…or both!”
Joe is a huge Muse and Queen fan, and pays tribute to both bands in their version of this song, “The original was so perfect that we wanted to reimagine the song entirely!” The single features singer Melanie Mitrano, the first time Stratospheerius has ever had an operatic soprano guesting on any of their recordings.
Fusing influences by artists as diverse as Tool, Tom Morello, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Jack Bruce, Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius are contenders for being the biggest deal in prog that you’ve never heard! Writes Cleveland.com’s Peter Chakerian, “He may not be a ‘household name’ (yet) but he’s kind of a big deal.” Adds Progressive Rock Central’s Angel Romero, the group “combines solid songwriting and tradition with extraordinary electric violin work and the sounds of the future.”
Special guests on GUILTY OF INNOCENCE include guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament, TSO), keyboardist Rave Tesar (Renaissance), and vocalist/guitarist Randy McStine (The Fringe, Stu Hamm).
