One of the rapidly rising stars of their scene in South America, Semblant is more than ready for the world stage. The band received international praise from the metal community with the release of the album “Lunar Manifesto” (2014), with the singles “What Lies Ahead”, “Dark of the Day,” and “Incinerate” combining for more than 30 million views on YouTube. Now, Semblant are ready for the next phase of their career with the upcoming release of the highly anticipated album “Obscura”.
The band formed in 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil when singer Sergio Mazul and keyboardist J. Augusto joined forces to create music that featured all the dark and aggressive elements they appreciated and loved in metal music. After a few years of changing line-ups, the group established itself with the addition of Mizuho Lin (female vocals), Juliano Ribeiro (guitar), Welyntom “Thor” Sikora (drums), and Johann Piper (bass) to the band.
Vocalist Mizuho Lin says, “It’s an honor to be part of such a traditional label like Frontiers. We’ve been composing and preparing ourselves for at least two years to finally get ‘Obscura’ ready and we’re super excited to begin this new era working together with the label!”
Singer Sergio Mazul adds. “We’re really excited to start this amazing new era of Semblant with Frontiers. Besides my doom, gothic, thrash and death influences, I’m a great enthusiast of all kinds of hard rock and heavy metal, having collected a lot of titles released by the label. They’ve been doing amazing work worldwide with new bands and Semblant will surely figure as a new jolt of energy to Frontiers’ roster, with our dark and more extreme influences in our songs. And we’re sure that Frontiers will make the same for us, taking the band to another level. ‘Obscura’ will strike the world in 2020 and we’re counting the days to introduce our new album to everyone!”
Frontiers is thrilled to welcome Semblant to our rapidly expanding metal roster and to bring their incredible talents to metalheads around the globe.

German indie three-piece KOJ shares their new single “Jenny” along with a live session video. It’s the second single from the bands Long Branch Records label debut album “HOME” coming Spring 2020. The song “Jenny” talks about experiencing dark moments in your life and feeling like there is no possible way out of it. KOJ wanted to explore the way someone might perceive the world through this lens of anxiety and hopelessness and it made them wonder what it might take for that person to see a silver lining and to feel like they belong again.
KOJ comments on new single “Jenny”: “Jenny was written in our home studio and it was a very intuitive and collaborative process. The three of us started jamming randomly at the beginning of a songwriting session and it just sort of came together. Beray Habip, our producer and engineer, coordinated the whole thing and guided us through the process of making the song. In a way, Jenny came out of thin air, but then again this is one of those songs that seems to have been waiting somewhere in the collective subconscious just to be written. Basically it only took us one day to write the entire track and record a demo version. It was such a wonderful feeling to listen to Jenny at the end of that day, realizing that ‘wow, we really did this!’. We then took the demo to Toolhouse Studios to record the final version of the song. So, the song is called Jenny, which originally came from ‘Jennifer Lawrence’, which was the working title for the track. The song has a line about a silver lining, so we thought of ‘Silver Linings’ and about Jennifer Lawrence. We had started this weird habit on previous songs of temporarily naming the songs after celebrities, before committing to a proper song title. We created quite the line-up with names such as Pamela Anderson or Scarlett Johansson, before renaming them for the album. Jennifer Lawrence became Jenny and stayed this way because the name also has a very personal reference and connection to the theme of the song.”

Three musicians. Two brothers. One married couple. This is KOJ. Together they give life to a sound that is full of contrasts, sometimes roaring, untamed and raw, as the ocean that inspires them, other times delicate, fragile and minimalistic.

American prog-rock quartet Thematic are set to release their new album, Skyrunner on Jan 31st, 2020.
Today, the band is pleased the share the video for the track “Silence in Thought” from the upcoming album.
“Silence in Thought” is an integral piece to our album, Skyrunner. It conveys a premonition from a supporting character in the story who envisions nothing but death awaiting our protagonist. However, she hesitates to speak of this knowing she carries his child and does not want to burden his journey he must set forth. While writing this song, we wanted to embody many emotions like vulnerability, isolation, fear, disarray; but also hope and joy, with sentiments of longing. The introduction is whimsical like a dance between the characters’ conscious states which quickly unravels, as fear of loss sets in. This song is ever evolving from start to finish with little repetition of themes and atypical structure. This comes to a powerful and explosive conclusion that acknowledges what awaits our protagonist’s fate. ~ Thematic
Skyrunner is a concept album that tells of a hero’s quest to honor a promise. It is a tale of an epic journey through the fall from grace, the battle for redemption and the ultimate glory and tragedy of salvation. It is a story of honor and valor, of a tormented soul and his quest to restore the light of hope and love to a world and soul consumed by darkness. It is a story of a promise kept.

Philadelphia- duo Rise Twain released their debut self-titled album last year on InsideOutMusic. The union of Brett William Kull (producer, audio engineer, and member of Echolyn, Grey Eye Glances, and Francis Dunnery’s New Progressives) and J.D. Beck (The Scenic Route, Beck-Fields, author & playwright) bring their collective years of direct and varied experience in writing, performing and recording music together for their impressive first album.
The band comments: “Prayers is an elegy for love to come down from a forbidden height, to call from the night, to remember, wake, and live again. It sings a desperate melody to the lost so that they may find their way home.”
The band’s debut has received some fantastic reviews, find some of the reactions below:
“awe-inspiring” – Prog Magazine

“there’s no shortage of talent in this band” – Powerplay
“if you only listen to one new album this year then I implore you to make it this one.” – The Prog Report

The track-listing is as follows: 1. Everspring 2. Golden 3. The Range 4. Lit Up 5. Death of Summer 6. Oh This Life 7. Prayers 8. Falling Skies 9. Into A Dream 10. That Is Love
Talking of how the duo came together: “I produced an album for J.D.’s original band, The Scenic Route”, says Kull, describing his first meeting with Beck in 2007. “They were a rocky, progressive kind of band, like a Jeff Buckley kind of thing. I was immediately drawn to his vocals. He’s such a strong singer.” Kull says he and Beck immediately hit it off, what he describes as an “inevitable connection.”
Adds Beck, “I just knew I had to work with Brett on a higher level. When I came in to cut the vocals on the Scenic Route album, the way we worked together…some people you just gel with, and then some people you have a barrier with. Brett and I gelled.” They spoke of one day collaborating on their own project, which finally surfaces as Rise Twain.
Discussing the album’s musical direction, Beck notes, “There’s not a typical structural theme that we use over and over and over. ‘Organic’ is a word that comes to mind. Seeking openness through simplicity and allowing the complexity of music to exist without the necessity of overly packing it or overly processing it. With that we were able to achieve such a broad spectrum of sound, and a colossal sense of its existence, without having to have a billion guitars and a billion things put over top. There’s some colouring with strings and other embellishments, but it really is something very simple and stripped down, and it’s awesome.”
Kull adds, “There’s a lot of complexity in this, but it’s not overt in the least bit. But yet, when you get into it, there’s all this really rich harmonic and dynamic stuff going on.”
RISE TWAIN are: J.D. Beck: Piano, lead and backing vocals Brett William Kull: Guitars, bass, keys, percussion, lead and backing vocals
