JONAS REINGOLD is thrilled to announce the release of TRANSMUTATION, the sixth studio album from his critically acclaimed solo project, KARMAKANIC.

After an eight-year hiatus, Reingold returns to Karmakanic with renewed passion and creativity. He describes Transmutation as his boldest artistic statement yet, pushing progressive rock to new heights and reaching new audiences.

“It’s been an amazing journey creating this beast of an album, collaborating with exceptional musicians in state-of-the-art studios like Ocean Way in Nashville and CLA Studios in LA. I’m deeply grateful for everyone’s contributions to Transmutation. The title itself signifies transformation into a new state of being—just like the constant flux of the universe. My music evolves too, starting as a seed and blooming into something vibrant—hopefully not fading too soon!”

Reingold has enlisted a stellar lineup of world-class musicians to bring his vision to life. Among them is his longtime friend and musical companion, Steve Hackett (Genesis), who delivers breathtaking guitar work throughout the album. Drum legends Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Judas Priest), Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train, Spock’s Beard, Mr. Big), and Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson, Steve Hackett, Frost) provide a rhythm section of extraordinary depth.

For the first time, Reingold collaborates with vocalist John Mitchell (Asia, Lonely Robot, Frost, Arena), whose gritty, soulful voice perfectly complements Reingold’s melodic compositions. Additionally, Randy McStine delivers lead guitar firepower, marking their first collaboration since The Fringe in 2016.

“I have to pinch myself seeing who’s on this album—heroes of mine! I’m truly humbled and grateful for their contributions. This is a joint venture. I often joke that Karmakanic is the prog equivalent of FC Barcelona—only the best players onboard.”

The album also features an all-star lineup, including Lalle LarssonAndy TillisonTomas BodinLuke MachinGöran EdmanRob TownsendRoger King, and Krister Jonsson, among others.

Recorded across Nashville, Los Angeles, Germany, and Austria, the album delivers a breathtaking sonic experience, mixed by five-time Grammy-winning engineer Chris Lord-Alge (Rolling Stones, Muse, Tina Turner, Prince) at his Los Angeles studio, MIX LA.

Transmutation releases on 7th March 2025 and will be available on CD, vinyl, and streaming platforms. Celebrating independent artistry, all formats will be released on Jonas’s own label, Reingold Records.

Karmakanic is a progressive rock band from Sweden, formed in 2002 by bassist Jonas Reingold, best known for his work with The Flower Kings. Their music blends symphonic prog, jazz fusion, and rock, often featuring complex compositions, rich melodies, and thought-provoking lyrics.

The band’s lineup has evolved over the years, with notable members including Göran Edman (vocals), Krister Jonsson (guitar), Lalle Larsson (keyboards), and Zoltan Csörsz (drums). Karmakanic’s sound is marked by intricate instrumental passages, dynamic arrangements, and a balance of technical proficiency and emotional depth.

Some of their key albums include:

  • Entering the Spectra (2002): Their debut album, exploring cosmic and philosophical themes.
  • Wheel of Life (2004): A more refined sound with introspective lyrics and melodic complexity.
  • Who’s the Boss in the Factory? (2008): Widely regarded as one of their best works, blending symphonic elements with strong songwriting.
  • In a Perfect World (2011): Featuring catchy melodies and sophisticated compositions.
  • DOT (2016): Inspired by Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot,” this album explores humanity’s place in the universe.

Karmakanic is praised for their ability to create both grand, epic pieces and intimate, heartfelt songs, making them a standout in the modern progressive rock scene.

“Spain,” and how it came to be by Joe Deninzon

One of the perks of being a jazz musician is that you can walk into a room anywhere in the world, jump on stage with people you’ve never met who may or may not speak your language, and weave together a spontaneous concert based on a shared musical language.

On October 2nd, 2021, when the late great John Goodsall from Brand X fell ill, Stratospheerius was asked last minute to headline Progstock, the biggest prog rock festival in the Northeastern U.S. Preceding our set was the amazing multi-instrumentalist Rachel Flowers, who recently contributed her talents to our single, “Storm Surge.” Following us later that night was the bassist Percy Jones. Joining Percy on guitar was Alex Skolnick. Alex is an old friend who recorded and toured with our band in the early 2000s. I saw a great opportunity to reunite with Alex and include Rachel in a song. It was also nice to give the band a break and play something more stripped-down in the middle of our set. We decided to play Chick Corea’s “Spain,” a song we all knew well.  There was no time to rehearse. Alex had heard of Rachel but had never met her. That night, Rachel and Alex met on stage, never having played together before. This performance was completely on the fly! Judging by the audience’s reaction, I think we created some magic that night and are excited to share it with everyone who couldn’t be there in person.

41POINT9 Premiere New Video “The Marine” as Tribute to US Marine Corps from the Upcoming Album “Mr. Astute Trousers”

This video is for a song called “The Marine” and was based on the true story of a U.S. Marine Corps soldier killed in Afghanistan. When his body was returned to his wife (who was pregnant with their first child) she requested to “sleep one last time by her husband’s side” in the funeral home. At her request, the Marine Honor Guard fixed her a makeshift bed beside the coffin and as the last Marine was leaving the chapel, he looked back to see her quietly crying. He turned around and went back to her and asked her if she would like him to stay for a while. She said she would like that. The Marine stepped back up on the dais beside the coffin and stood at attention. When the young mother woke the next morning, that Marine was still there….still standing at attention. Still watching over her, her unborn child and her deceased loved one.

This is a true story that won a Pulitzer Prize for best photo essay in a Colorado Newspaper. You can read that story and see the pictures that inspired this song here; http://digitaljournalist.org/issue0604/finalsalute_thumbs.html

41POINT9 wishes to pay tribute to the honor and traditions of the Marine Corps and to the sacrifice embodied by all who serve. It is for this reason all proceeds from this video will be donated to The Semper Fi Fund, an A+ rated charity that provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
