Leon Alvarado‎ Re-visits “2014 Music From An Expanded Universe” with New Music Video for Blood Like Red

Blood Like Red is the 3rd track from the 2014 Music From An Expanded Universe album. The video features Leon Alvarado on Keyboards and Drums. Trey Gunn (King Crimson, The Security Project) on Warr Guitar and Bass and Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates) on Taos Drums percussion. Produced by Leon Alvarado, Engineered by Leon Alvarado, Trey Gunn and
Mastered by Andy Jackson

For years I had wanted to add visuals to what it is one of my favorite pieces from my music.
Leon Alvarado

Leon Alvarado is Texas-based prog drummer, keyboardist, composer, and illustrator, Alvarado has recorded with many talented musicians including Bill Bruford (Gong, Yes, Genesis, Earthworks), John Goodsall (Brand X, Fire Merchants), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, Paul McCartney), Billy Sherwood (Yes, Asia), Rick Wakeman and Tony Levin.

On the graphics front I have done album covers and touring materials for bands such as Brand X, Genesis, Phil Collins, Jethro Tull, Jeff Beck, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, The Australian Pink Floyd Show, and King’s X.

A Critics Point of View

This is not one of those balls-to-walls prog-rock affairs. For instance on “Blood Like Red,” the artists execute a slowly moving and budding rock pulse, steered by Gunn’s prominent bass lines, in support of the leader’s polytonal voicings, sounding somewhere in between a mellotron and synth strings type soundscape. Moreover, Alvarado layers a tabla vibe to incorporate a world music background into the mix, followed by Gunn’s stinging and crunchy Warr guitar notes.
All About Jazz

“Blood Like Red” starts and ends with atmospheric wind effects with the middle brimming with Alvarado’s spacier synth exploits and Gunn’s textural Warr guitar crunch. It is here the band really gets into a full but subtle groove.

Scorching reviews:

“Great to see some of the original members doing it the right way.” – Steve Hackett

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination, and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“What Security Project does is accomplish what’s been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel’s music as repertoire. It’s clear that while the band treats Gabriel’s music with no shortage of reverence, it’s also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz

“Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project’s performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock.” – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine

Trey Gunn
A native Texan who resides in Seattle, Gunn is known for the unusual 10-string touch guitar that he plays. From the blistering live recordings at the Royal Albert Hall in London with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp (“Damage”, Virgin Records) to ten years recording and touring with King Crimson – a group many content as the most aggressively, adventurous rock band of all time – Gunn is associated with a constant stream of cutting edge projects. Michael Cozzi
Originally from Wales & London, Cozzi got his start in the mid 80’s as the guitarist for the group Shriekback which had the pleasure of touring with “Simple Minds” “INXS” and “Peter Gabriel”. In the early 90’s, Cozzi joined “Sky Cries Mary” with whom he co wrote 5 albums and toured extensively. During this time Cozzi opened up his recording studio “Moscozzi Studio” where he co-wrote and produced the last two SCM albums “Here and Now” and “Small Town”. He has written and produced music for bands, films, commercials, and video games, which let to him meeting and working with Trey Gunn. Two years ago Trey asked Cozzi if he knew of a guitarist for The Security Project, Cozzi put his hand up like a kid in the classroom and said “me me me”.

David Jameson
Keyboardist/Eigenharpist David Jameson began his music career in the 70’s – when multi-keyboard/synth players became a thing. He spent several years touring with Time Machine and then left the music scene for a career at IBM Research after completing a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. At IBM, Dr. Jameson created and managed the Computer Music Center and was elected to the prestigious IBM Academy of Technology. David left IBM to found Digiportal Software and more recently Deskew Technologies where he now co-develops Gig Performer, a recently released audio plugin host that targets the critical needs of live performance/session musicians and which he uses in The Security Project shows instead of carrying around tons of vintage keyboards (for which the other band members are very grateful). In addition to working with The Security Project, David also performs with Beyond The Wall, a Pink Floyd tribute band.

United Progressive Fraternity – UPF “PLANETARY OVERLOAD” Update

Hi Everyone,
just a little update on the Planetary Overload album.

United Progressive Fraternity - UPF

We are taking our time with this one as we want to make sure that every song gets the attention and focus that this project needs.

Firstly the track “What happens Now” is with Guitar guru Matt Williams I am sure he will be laying down some very tasty bits. The track has drummer extraordinaire Jerry Marotta.

The Epic “Seeds for Life” arranged by Gordo Bennett is taking shape and I plan to lay my vocals down in the next 3 weeks. This track will feature some wonderful players including Dan Mash (bass), Marek Arnold (sax), Steve Unruh (flutes, violin production) Steve Hackett (guitars) Nick Magnus (keyboards)

Planetary Breakdown
This song is arranged by Jose Manuel Medina and written by Mark Truey Trueack its the next track in which I am working on now, the orchestration is wonderful and the sound is quite lush. Most of all the message comes through, I am yet to choose the musicians for this track.

I will be recording some of these tracks at Timms Tunes with some direction from Sean Timms along with some other secret stuff

More updates soon….

Here’s what the press have raved about the Security Project’s “Live 1”:

“Strong marks go to this unique project that will appeal to Peter Gabriel fans and progressive rock aficionados. This is a live album, but the level of musicianship among the band members makes that easy to forget until hearing the audience applause following the tracks. Writing as a Gabriel fan myself, the telling fact is that I’ll probably play Live 1 more often than I play Gabriel’s own recent reinventions.” – Jeff Elbel, IE Magazine

“The Security Project has captured not only the sonic details of Gabriel’s music but also the revered artist’s quirkiness.” – Cryptic Rock

Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews
