Mile Marker Zero Confirmed for RoSfest 2019

RoSfesters,

Mile Marker Zero is the final band signed for RoSfest 2019. They’re a very talented Progressive Rock group from New Haven, CT USA!

Mile Marker Zero isn’t a band that the average progressive rock fan will be all that much aware of, but they have been around in one guise or another for 15 years by now – or 13 years if you refer to the band’s official biography. They released their self-titled debut album back in 2009, and along with their 2006 EP “The Haunted” they did get quite a bit of attention in those earlier days. Being the first unsigned band to have their music featured in the video game series RockBand among the proud moments from that phase of their career.

In later years the band has released a second EP, “Young Rust” (2014), and in March 2018 the band launched their second album “The Fifth Row“. The quality of the latter was so impressive that we just had to book this band, even if we didn’t really have any free slots left – we’ll get back to how that detail will be sorted when we release the official schedule for RoSfest 2019.

For those not already aware of Mile Marker Zero, progressive metal with clear references to the foundations of the genre established “back in the day” by good old Rush is a fitting and appropriate manner in which to describe what this band is all about. We love it, and we are certain that many others will as well – especially after having seen them perform their material live on the stage of course.

RoSfest 2019 will take place on May 3rd through 5th, 2019 at the Sarasota Opera House, Florida. Scheduled bands to play: Friday- Cryptic Vision and Von Hertzen Brothers. Saturday- Entransient, Mile Marker Zero, Karmamoi, Phideaux and Jethro Tull 50th Anniversary Tour with Martin Barre, Clive Bunker and Jonathan Noyce. Sunday- Edge of Reality, Traverser, Flor De Loto, and Riverside. The complete schedule with times will be posted shortly on the RoSfest website.

We love this 2019 lineup and think that you will too! Hope to see everyone in Sarasota next May!

The Prog Before Xmas – 2018

Abel Ganz is very pleased to once again stage our ‘Prog Before Christmas’ event in 2018!
As some of you may know – last year’s event, thanks to the generosity of all the bands and audience members, managed to smash our previous total and we raised the fantastic sum of almost £2500 on behalf of cancer care charity https://www.maggiescentres.org/
We are sure you will all by now be aware, we decided to donate all proceeds from our event to this great cause as it has been such an important source of support to our dear friend [and founding member of Abel Ganz] Hugh Carter – who has become something of a champion for this charity. We are very happy indeed to say that this continues to be the case and so we will again be running this year’s show on the same basis.
As has become customary we are delighted to have some very specially invited guests who have agreed to come along to help make this what is sure to be another exceptional event.
This year – we are running things just a little differently. We noticed last year that not everyone could stay on till the end of the night [as the event ran on till 1am]. Some of the feedback we got back was that, for some, a slightly earlier finish would mean people could enjoy all the music and atmosphere of the event and still make it in time for last trains and buses home. We have taken that on board and so this year we will start earlier and finish just a little earlier.
Indeed, by adding one more band to the bill our event now becomes almost a ‘mini’ one day Prog Fest. A five band bill with two bands in the afternoon, then a break, then three bands in the evening. Our line up looks like this:
Afternoon
Glen Brielle – Hugh Carter’s solo project. Joined by several close friends in a full band line up, Hugh will debut selections from forthcoming solo release ‘Still‘ – a very personal album including epic track The Journey: a musical record of the voyage of discovery that Hugh and his wife Maria set off on after his diagnosis.
Halo Tora – Recently featured in Prog magazine this young and vital band from Glasgow are rightly drawing a great deal of attention at the moment. With a fresh and exciting sound, they really do have the potential to go very far and we are, frankly, fortunate to have them join the bill while it’s still possible to see them up close and personal! The band has just released new album ‘Man of Stone: First Chapter’.
Break
Evening
Grand Tour – Hew Montgomery solo project. Joined by Joe Cairney from Comedy of Errors on lead vocals, and with full band line up, we are absolutely thrilled that this year’s event will feature the first live performances of Hew’s solo material. Playing selections from debut album ‘On the Beach’, and tracks from new, forthcoming album ‘Clocks that tick – but never talk’ this is sure to be a highlight of this year’s event.
Abel Ganz – Organizers / hosts will showcase new material from forthcoming album ‘The Life of The Honey Bee – and other moments of clarity’ as well as some favourites from back catalogue.
Galahad – Headline act. With a long and illustrious history, Galahad have in recent years released one great album after another! Their 2018 release ‘Seas Of Change’, the follow up to the 2017 ‘Quiet Storms‘ album consists of just one massive, hugely ambitious ‘Magnum Opus’ track exceeding 42-minutes of imaginative and dramatic modern Progressive Rock. Nominated for the 2018 UK PROG awards in the ‘UK Band/Artist of the year’ category, Galahad have, astonishingly, never before played in Scotland! We are so very pleased to welcome them to The Prog before Xmas and have them remedy that fact!
We hope you will agree that this is sure to be another night to remember and we would remind you all – as before, the aim is to raise as much money for the Maggie’s charity as we possibly can!!
The event will be held on Saturday December 15th in the Drygate Brewery in Glasgow and we expect to have tickets on sale from Sat 25th August. Please come along and enjoy a great night and support the event if you can.

5.     Nil By Mouth
6.     Host
7.     A Cell Divides

To celebrate the announcement of the new album, the band ran a competition for one lucky fan’s artwork to be etched into the fourth side of the vinyl version of the record. They invited people to submit their own version of the Rorshach test ink-blot which graces the album cover, and the winner was revealed as Shakoor Bukhuth aka SHAUN BEYOND.

Since their inception in 2007, Haken have shown over four previous studio albums, one EP and a live release that they never stand still, merely satisfied to rely on past triumphs. Rather, Haken always look for ways to challenge themselves as musicians and artists, and also to keep the listeners on their collective toes. “We don’t like to make simple music,” laughs vocalist Ross Jennings. “We always aim to defy expectations, and I believe we’ve surpassed what we aimed to achieve with our new album.”

Their fifth studio record sees the band going in a heavier direction with the music. “We’ve always had a heavy influence”, explains guitarist Charlie Griffiths, “but it was obvious from the riffs that were naturally coming out of us early in the writing process that this would be a more metal album. These are some of the most riff driven songs we’ve ever written.” As is usual, Haken produced the album themselves, but for the first time they have enlisted Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood during the recording and mixing stages. Formerly bassist with Periphery, in the last couple of years he has built a reputation as a fine producer. “We produced the album ourselves, as we always do,” insists Jennings. “But we’re fans of what Adam has done with Periphery, Sikth and Devin Townsend. He has a great reputation for the heavier end of our genre”.

But if this album is musically heavy, then there’s an underlying theme running through the seven songs which is certainly esoteric and fascinating. “The scene is set with the track The Good Doctor, which was a really fun song. Musically it feels like a logical step from ‘Affinity’, but lyrically it’s a bit more theatrical and about as ‘rock opera’ as Haken has ever got”, explains Griffiths. “It’s about a Doctor with an intriguing, perhaps sinister interest in a particular patient. From there the story enters the point-of-view of the patient – who appears to be catatonic, but his mind is sparking with what could be memories, or delusions brought on by the treatment he’s receiving – we leave this up to the listeners to decide. Although we don’t want to give too much away, people who are familiar with our back catalogue will have fun discovering further clues we’ve planted throughout the album. And that’s the challenge for the fans – to find out for themselves their own meaning for ‘Vector’ as an album”.

The band also recently announced North American co-headline dates alongside Norway’s LEPROUS, and label-mates BENT KNEE, in what is an all InsideOutMusic bill. These will be the first live shows in support of Vector, and you can find the full list of dates below:

Progressive rock instrumentalists GÖSTA BERLINGS SAGA from Stockholm, Sweden will be releasing their newest, 5th studio album effort entitled ‘ET EX’ on October 12th, 2018 via InsideOutMusic worldwide.

Therefore, GBS are launching a first single today with the start of the album’s pre-order.

Stream it here: https://gostaberlingssaga.lnk.to/ETEX

GBS checked in with the following comment about the track:
“To us, ‘CLC&R‘ is a logical progression in the continuous chiseling of the sound that is Gösta Berlings Saga – or at least parts of it. While the song itself is very minimalistic and repetitive, we didn’t spare any expenses on this one instrumentation-wise to achieve a sense of contrast – for instance by inviting Lars Åhlund from Soen on saxophone. Basically, it’s a simple and powerful tune with a complex soundscape!”

The “ET EX“ album was recorded throughout a year-long period from May 2017 until May 2018 in various studios with the help of producer Daniel Fagerström and mastered by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering (Björk, The Mars Volta).

The album’s final track-listing reads as follows:

1. Veras tema
2. The Shortcomings of Efficiency
3. Square 5
4. Over and Out
5. Artefacts
6. Capercaillie Lammergeyer Cassowary & Repeat
7. Brus från stan
8. Fundament

Next to an initial Digipak CD format and the Digital Album format, “ET EX“ will also be available as 180gr. LP (with the entire album on CD as a bonus) on black vinyl, but also as strictly limited runs on clear vinyl (100x copies via IOM webshop / CM Distro) and on silver vinyl (200x copies via the band directly).

The music of GÖSTA BERLINGS SAGA is an incredibly dynamic Nordic instrumental adventure, tilting from melodic, starkly beautiful lines shimmering like an aurora borealis over the desolate Arctic tundra, to powerful and aggressive riffs reminiscent of glacier calves crashing into rugged Scandinavian fjords. Over the years the band’s music has been compared to King Crimson, Goblin and Radiohead, mixed into their very own and peculiar sonic universe.

GÖSTA BERLINGS SAGA was formed in 2000 in the Stockholm suburb of Vällingby, taking its band name from one of the most famous works in Swedish literature, the debut novel of Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf, which was published in 1891. To date GBS have released 4 albums as follows: “Tid Är Ljud” (translated “Time Is Sound”) in 2006, “Detta Har Hänt” (translated “This Has Happened”) in 2009, “Glue Works“ in 2011 and most recently “Sersophane” in late 2016. While the latest release came out through the band’s own label Icosahedron Music, GBS have now teamed up with InsideOutMusic as new worldwide label partner to launch their upcoming, fifth studio album entitled “ET EX” on October 12th, 2018.
