Envy Of None, the new band and debut self-titled album from Alex Lifeson (Rush), Andy Curran (Coney Hatch), Alfio Annibalini, and singer Maiah Wynne.
A Blacktide Phonic/Visual Production Directed and Produced by Jeremy George Featuring Sapphire Sumpter Assistant: Synaet Nin
About Envy Of None Alex Lifeson is no stranger to the concept of evolution. As a founding member of Rush, he’s been able to explore more musical ground than just about any other guitar player out there – taking rock to new progressive heights throughout the decades and always in the most wildly inventive of ways. His influence can be heard on countless bands around the world, from indie shoegaze and math rock to heavy metal and beyond. Over the last few years, Lifeson has been focusing on a new project that, no matter how well-acquainted you are with his discography, will undoubtedly shatter all seeds of expectation and blow the mind. That project is Envy Of None.
The new band, also featuring Coney Hatch founder/bassist Andy Curran, an accomplished producer and engineer Alfio Annibalini and singer-songwriter Maiah Wynne, will be releasing their self-titled debut album on April 8 via Kscope. Its 11 tracks – which ricochet between various shades of alternative, experimental, and synth-rock – throw surprises at every turn, twisting dark melodies against contemporary pop hooks. Lifeson himself is proudly aware of how little of it crosses over with the band that made him famous.
However, it was only when singer Maiah Wynne became involved that this truly started to feel like a band destined to go somewhere. Her haunting melodies and soul-baring intensity is – by the admission of her own bandmates – what truly brought this music to life. All things considered; she is a star in the making… “I sent over an early version of the song Shadow,” explains Andy Curran. “When I played what she’d done back to the others they were like, ‘Who is this crazy talented person?!’”
The industrial beats, driving fuzz bass and atmospheric guitars concoct a seductive swirl indeed – thrilling in ways closer to the darker art rock of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and A Perfect Circle than anything these musicians have been known for prior.
“Maiah became my muse,” continues Alex Lifeson. “She was able to bring this whole new ethereal thing through her sense of melody on tracks like Liar and Look Inside. After hearing her vocals on Never Said I Love You, I felt so excited. I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician. When we say she’s special, it’s because she’s really fucking special!”
“One of my favorite things about these songs is the intimacy of them,” reveals Maiah Wynne. “It makes them feel different and more honest. There are some heavier songs too, like Enemy, and then tracks like Kabul Blues, that sound completely different to anything else.”
The album closer, Western Sunset, was penned by Alex Lifeson in tribute to his dear friend Neil Peart. It’s a highly emotive piece of music to honor a man deeply missed by the rock community at large, and even more so by those who were lucky enough to know him. “I visited Neil when he was ill,” says Alex Lifeson. “I was on his balcony watching the sunset and found inspiration. There’s a finality about a sunset that kinda stayed with me throughout the whole process. It had meaning. It was the perfect mood to decompress after all these different textures… a nice way to close the book.”

Is ProgStock happening this year? What did you think was going to happen? Tom and Ann were going to give up? If the pandemic didn’t stop us… And our venue getting flooded didn’t stop us… I mean, really people!
And what are the dates? Seriously? When is ProgStock? Say it with me now… COLUMBUS DAY Weekend! or Indigenous Peoples’ Day Weekend or the weekend before the second Monday in October. Confused yet? How about this? It’s October 7 – 9, 2022!
We’ll be announcing all kinds of exciting stuff over the next week, so pay attention folks!
The festival’s motto. And never could it have proved to be more appropriate than now.
When King’s X found themselves forced to cancel, after realizing that even daily physio was not going to suffice to get Ty Tybor’s fret finger back into good enough shape to prepare properly for their performance at this year’s RoSFest, the festival organizers found themselves in a bit of a fix.
But ‘community’ is a keyword for the annual Rites Of Spring Festival, and a group of musicians, captained by Dave Kerzner stepped up to ensure that the weekend’s entertainment would not be marred by a gaping hole in the line-up.
Sunday night’s headliner spot will now feature Dave KerZner and his newly formed All Star Prog Band featuring world-famous session man, Fernando Perdomo (Carmine Appice, Out to Sea, Echo in the Canyon…), Durga McBroom (Pink Floyd, Steve Hackett, Blue Pearl…), Billy Sherwood (Yes, Arc of Life, Circa, Asia…), Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train, Spock’s Beard, The Fringe, Genesis…). Dave also promises to surprise the audience with a magnificent set-list and a few surprises and special guests.

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS, the California-based band featuring Ted Leonard (lead vocals & guitars), Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Dave Meros (bass) and John Boegehold (keyboards), are pleased to announce the band’s third studio album titled Only Passing Through, to be released through InsideOutMusic on April 1st, 2022. The album is the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2020 release Prehensile Tales.
The band check in on the new album here: “Only Passing Through, our third album picks up where Prehensile Tales left off but soon takes several stylistic detours as it progresses. Everyone involved made this album a lot of fun to make and we’re all looking forward to it to finally being heard.” John Boegehold
“This new album draws from a lot of different sources and pushes all of us to bring out our best. We all had to dig pretty deep to express out the right spirit of each song. To call it Prog would be highly inadequate. We’re all over the map and yet, there is still a very distinct sound that threads through the whole album. I’m very proud of this record and excited for people to hear it!” Jimmy Keegan
Where has the time gone? We cannot believe it ourselves; it seems like yesterday that launched a record label to give a voice to those that needed to be heard. We discovered Echoes Landing on an old social network and fell in love with their self-titled debut leading to our decision to build Melodic Revolution Records (MRR) to promote that album. The band would later change their name and is better known as Scarlet Hollow who are still with MRR. To date we have released a single, an EP and two full-length releases in addition to two solo albums by these talented musicians.
This was just the beginning; we now celebrate our fifteenth anniversary with over 100 releases to date.
As a thank you to our supporters old and new, we have assembled a special digital release, “Sands of Time A Music Revolution 2006/2021”. We hope that this release will provide our listeners the opportunity to rediscover music that you may have forgotten about and discover music you may have never heard.
We consider all music progressive that has a new and cutting-edge sound and doesn’t follow the formulaic patterns of mainstream music. “Sands of Time A Music Revolution 2006/2021” is a testament that not all great music must be released via mainstream record labels. What you will experience it is an album that represents our slogan “Music you didn’t know you would love”. The album starts with the very first artist/band that we signed to the label and ends with our latest signing.
Although the sequencing of the album is straightforward; it was not an easy task to curate the songs for this release. Our first thought was to use the songs that grabbed our attention which resulted in the signing of an artist/band. However, after months of consideration and deliberation, we decided to showcase fan favorites.
This album is an excellent representation of where we started, where we have been, and where we are going. “Sands of Time A Music Revolution 2006/2021” also includes music by many fantastic artists from our sub-label PeacockSunrise Records, which is firmly in the where we are going category. PeacockSunrise Records is a natural progression of us and is still in its infancy but growing fast.
“Sands of Time A Music Revolution 2006/2021” is not for sale, but as of today it is available for full streaming. Each track has a link which will provide more band and album information and in most cases links for more music and ways to support the artist/band. Sadly, some of these artist/bands may no longer be together; they may have morphed into other bands or may not even be in this business of creating music.
We would like to dedicate this release to some people that were very important to us and our history. First, we would like to dedicate this album to Phil Naro who was part of over a dozen releases including DDRIVE, Unified Past, When Friends Come Out and Play, Colin Tench Project, Corvus Stone, King Friday, Kings, Backhand among others.
The second dedication goes out to Colin Tench who released many albums, singles and EPs with Andres Guazzelli, Corvus Stone, The Minstrel’s Ghost, Andy John Bradford’s’ Oceans5, Colin Tench Project, Halo, Transmission Rails and more.
And to Peter Jorgensen, we had just started our musical partnership earlier in the year with the release Immaterial Witness by his band Phoen1x. There were plans on releasing many more.
Thank you for sticking with us over the years and being part of this journey. If not for you… MRR and its family of artists would not exist. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
