Stratospheerius Frontman and Violinist Joe Deninzon Reflects on Bohemian Rhapsody and Meeting Brian May during the “Back to the Light” Tour

Just saw Bohemian Rhapsody, and even though they screwed up a lot of things chronologically and factually, it still captured the essence of Freddie Mercury and brought back a cool memory from when I was 18. Queen was an obsession for me in high school. Their music was a constant soundtrack of my life and I had all their albums. My band at the time wrote many songs inspired by Queen and even learned all the harmonies to “Love of my Life”, including Brian May’s guitar solo, which I transcribed and taught myself to play.

In February of 1993, about a year and a half after Freddie’s death, Brian May put out a great solo album called “Back to the Light.” I heard through the grapevine that he was giving a secret, free concert at the old Agora in Cleveland. I went with my bandmates, Matthew James Murphy and Matthew Parrotta. The show was killer and afterward, we wanted to try to get backstage. It was frigid cold and snowing outside and there was a huge line of people waiting to meet Brian. We were in the back of the line freezing our asses off, so we just started singing as loud as we could, hoping the guy guarding the door would hear us.

All of a sudden, the door opens, someone from the crew along with the drummer Cozy Powell walks up to us and leads us past the crowd straight to the backstage area. There, standing in front of us, was Brain May! We sang him one of our songs and gave him our demo tape. He was very gracious, complimentary, and we chatted for a while. He signed our CD’s and we thanked him.

For what it’s worth, the memory of that night is forever etched in my mind.

Thank you, Brian, Freddie, and Queen for the incredible music and inspiration!
– Joe Deninzon

Hall & Oates Band Member, Multi-Instrumentalist Eliot Lewis Releases Debut Album “Adventure”

Singer, Songwriter & Multi-instrumentalist Eliot Lewis is a key member of the Daryl Hall & John Oates band and one of the original featured musicians on MTV’s “Live From Daryl’s House”

Eliot Lewis is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist as well as being a key member of the Daryl Hall & John Oates band. Eliot is also one of the originally featured musicians on MTV’s “Live From Daryl’s House.” His contributions stand out on some of the best moments from the show including performances with Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren,Train, Grace Potter, Ben Folds, Booker T, Jewel, Rob Thomas, Keb Mo, Jason Mraz, Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw and many, many others. Earlier in his career, Eliot spent several years as a key member of The Average White Band. Eliot toured, wrote and also produced several songs for the Scottish soul band.

“Eliot is a musician who can do it all, great singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He rocks and he’s got soul. No one does it quite like him” – Daryl Hall

In 2016 Eliot signed an exclusive recording partnership with The SoNo Recording Group. His first release, entitled “Adventure,” is a collection of eleven new recordings; ten originals written, performed, and produced by Eliot and one cover of the Bad Company classic, “Ready For Love.”

Says Eliot, “My goal with this record is to try to present a record that comes from the place that first inspired me, the kind of classic stripped-down rock & soul before all the slick production with auto-tuning became so commonplace”

“Adventure” was released on CD, digital download, and streaming on October 28th world-wide vis SRG Records / The ILS Group / Universal Music Group.

Having mastered four instruments over the course of his career; guitar, keyboard, bass and drums, Eliot Lewis blazed his own trail as a solo artist sharing his distinctive brand of rock & soul through solo releases and hundreds of solo tour dates all over the world. Eliot’s songs come from the inside out. “I think the main inspiration for any of my records is to convey these little slices of life, most of my songs are written about my own experiences and situations”.

There are many who shaped Eliot’s music and writing. “As a guitar player, definitely Jeff Beck who I’ve been listening to all my life, as well as Billy Gibbons who I had the great fortune of working with recently, and Peter Frampton who I actually jammed with when I was 14 yrs old. I had the amazing experience of meeting and seeing many influential artists when I was a kid mainly at Madison Square Garden in New York City. A place I just played with Hall & Oates which was a lifetime dream. One of the first writers to inspire me to write songs was Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, another favorite band of mine that I just worked with on Live From Daryl’s House.”

Along with recording a select set of episodes for “Live From Daryl’s House,” Eliot is currently working on his next album slated for release the first half of 2019, along with a tour. “An Evening with Multi-Instrumentalist Eliot Lewis” consists of very unique performances where he plays all instruments on stage!

In closing Eliot has this to impart, “Life is an Adventure, I want to share mine with you on tour soon because we’re in it together.”

Rikard Sjöblom’s Gungfly launches video for “They Fade”

Rikard Sjöblom’s Gungfly recently released ‘Friendship’, their brand new studio album, following the release of 2017’s ‘On Her Journey To The Sun’, as well as 2018’s retrospective 5CD collection ‘Rumbling Box’.

Now Rikard is pleased to reveal a brand new animated video for the track ‘They Fade’ which you can watch now here:

Rikard comments: “I’m so glad that Love Fagerstedt went out on a mission to make such a fantastic animated video for ‘They Fade’. This song means a lot to me because I’m singing to several of my childhood friends and because of that it’s a very personal song. Love had his own vision for it and by portraying my words with his imagery of these two friends it made it an amazing combo I think!”

You can watch a clip of Gungfly’s previous single ‘Ghost of Vanity’, here:

Rikard comments: ”A song that really just came to me all at once while I was strumming away on my guitar one day, lyrics and all. I kept singing ‘I don’t want no part in this’ over and over at first and then started thinking about what it was I didn’t want to partake in. Well, vanity is something I’ve never been a big fan of but one way or another we’re all slaves to it. I think most people, especially teenagers and young adults strive to live up to unrealistic expectations from TV-commercials or the superficial parts of showbiz. I remember when I was a kid and thought everything they said on TV was true, or at least didn’t reflect too much about whether it was real or not. No matter how much we try to not care about how cool or pretty or rich we are, I think it gets to us. The ghost of vanity is always present and I guess it takes a lot of reflecting over your own identity and a lot of courage to try to be yourself. I admire those who truly are.”

The album will be available as a limited CD Digipak & gatefold 2LP + CD (both including 3 bonus tracks) as well as digital download.
Order now here: www.insideoutmusicshop.com

The full track-listing is as follows:

1.Ghost of Vanity
2.Friendship
3.They Fade
4.A Treehouse in a Glade
5.Stone Cold
6.If You Fall, Pt. 2
7.Crown of Leaves
8.Slow Dancer (Bonus Track)
9.Past Generation (Bonus Track)
10.Friendship (Utopian Radio Edit) (Bonus Track)
Rikard comments: “The idea for ‘Friendship’ came to me because of an old photo of me as a child. I found this old photo at my parents’ house, depicting me standing on top of this really tall treehouse in a glade near our house. Although I of course remembered it as being really high up in the tree tops as a child, this picture proved that it really was! As I reminisced about the treehouse I started thinking about my childhood friends with whom I built it. We were the best of friends and we spent so much time together in this little village where I used to live. This of course made me think about all the friends I used to have, these relationships where you hung out all the time, went through childhood together, grew up and knew everything about each other and then all of a sudden, for some reason, disappeared from each other’s lives. This phenomenon of falling out with someone is still a mystery to me, but I’ve learned to accept it, much like the separation of death it’s just a part of life and the nature of our course of life, I guess. So this is a collection of songs about and for all of my friends, dead or alive, past and present. I chose to base the stories around the treehouse in the glade, not because all of my memories are from there, but rather that it’s the place that made me think back on all of this.”

Rikard comments of the musical direction: “Musically, what can I say? This is prog rock, but I want to be free to move in whatever direction the music wants to go and I happily go exploring where it wants to take me. Even though there are a few softer songs and sections, most of the album turned out to be a rocker; a collection of hard rock songs with lots of tricky parts, some heavier moments and some downright jazzy elements too!”

Rikard Sjöblom is perhaps best known as the multi-instrumentalist frontman of Beardfish, who established themselves as one of the most consistently brilliant modern-day progressive rock bands over the course of eight studio albums. In recent years, he has also become known for his work with English progressive collective Big Big Train, playing live with them as well as performing on their most recent studio album ‘The Second Brightest Star’ as well as the new live album ‘Merchants of Light’.
