“Darkness Gives Shape to the Light” is the second music video from the album “Persistence of Vision” by US Progressive Instrumental art-rock band Edison Suit released on the Melodic Revolution Records label.
“Our pieces come together through improvisation and experimentation and the last thing we do is come up with a list of potential titles and then assign them to the songs. The titles all come from various books I’ve read, this one is from a book called Earthseed by Octavia Butler” – Barry Wood
Persistence of Vision Edison Suit’s third release and 1st new album in 17 years plunges further into their ethos of making electronic instruments seem organic and acoustic instruments seem electronic. Their penchant for unusual song structures and time signatures results in music that’s as surprising as it is ear-opening.
Edison Suit is the creative vision of Mark Smith and Barry Wood
Mark Smith: Electric, acoustic, 12-string guitar, EBow guitars, mando guitar, bass, and banjo Barry Wood: Keyboards, bass, Chapman Stick, lap steel, lap steel resonator, and programming Bret Wadams: Drums, and cymbals Paul McIntire: Violin
Critically acclaimed UK progressive alt-rockers Kyros return with the expansive new single ‘Illusions Inside (Feat. Dominique Gilbert)’ (July 28th).
Having built a reputation for their innovative sound, high octane live shows and fiercely DIY approach, the band have been gradually building hype with a unique sound which brings together the melodic hooks of pop with the musical complexity and depth of progressive rock and metal, Kyros has carved out a unique niche and built a feverish fanbase.
The new single ‘Illusions Inside’ offers another taste of the band’s unique ‘Synth-Prog’ sound. Featuring guest vocals from DMNIQ alongside the band’s vocalist Shelby Logan Warne, the band once again showcase their unique blend of expansive synths, punching drums, distorted guitar lines and driving bass to create an 80s influenced, explosive prog rock soundscape.
Topped with the bright, urgent yet considered, soaring dual lead vocals, the track is given a central melodic hook as it moves restlessly through emotive lyricism and infectiously catchy vocal lines.
A striking, complex yet accessible offering, ‘Illusions Inside’ offers a sense of the band’s uncanny ability to craft intertwining complex, playful musical ideas and riffs, with moments of virtuoso instrumentation delivered with a sense of infectious energy.
Speaking on the track, Kyros explain: “‘Illusions Inside’ is about that inner voice that reflects on your past and influences your current decisions in an attempt to capture those more innocent days. The track explores themes of inner turmoil, lost innocence and longing for simpler times. The difference between an easy and carefree existence versus feeling emotionally drained and broken.
The song was all written off the back of several bass riffs which eventually became the backbone for the song. It resulted in a track that feels very ’same but different’ for us.
As the song developed, we organically saw the need to get in a featured vocalist for the first time. Initially, we only wanted her for the choruses, but Dominique killed it so much that her role became something much more integrated through the song. One of those happy collaboration moments, for sure.”
Having already received widespread acclaim from the likes of Prog Magazine and Prog Rock Journal, the band have toured across Europe (with Spock’s Beard), supported the likes of Marillion and IQ, performed at festivals all over Europe as well as playing a joint headline tour of the east coast of America. These include ROS Fest in North America, Prog Dreams and A British Prog Invasion in the Netherlands, 2 Days Prog + 1 in Italy, and Night of the Prog IX in Germany to name a few.
Now back with more material, Kyros look to further solidify their place as one of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming Prog bands.
Clarabelle is an allegory of which the song and video was inspired by a wonderful doll creation made by Clare Powls.
About the Captain
The captain is a troubadour, storyteller and free-thinking renegade. His musical offerings are inspired by the great songwriters and philosophers of yesteryear. This is visceral music for the mind and body, full of dreamy verses, life affirming choruses and sheer audacity. Where melodic invention meets alternative folk, progressive, world and ambient sounds.
He is not just the figurehead of his musical vessel, he’s ringmaster, bard, master of ceremonies and sage. There’s far more to him and his absurdly engaging world than any of your ten – a – penny musical stars. Seen through showers of glitter, kaleidoscopic lens flares and in the rainbows of a million puddles. The captain tells sonic stories to connect with everyone past, present and future.

ifsounds release Stendhal Syndrome their first full length video from the upcoming 6th release MMXX due out April 28th
Stendhal Syndrome is a song about the addiction of modern society on aesthetic and appearance. The video is based on Kaiber AI technology and reproduces the feelings of the song and the obsession of pictures and photos.
Lyrics:
Blinding light. Visual ecstasy.
I, I need a vision of an angel by my side, floating in the waves deep down in my darkest mind. Will you dive deep there with me? Don’t speak, just smile, hold my chain . Stendhal syndrome melts my brain. Blinding light. Visual ecstasy.
You, beautiful picture exposed in a crowded room, my pure idea of beauty, I begin to swoon. What are you doing to me? My eyes get blind down in my cave. Stendhal syndrome. I’m your slave. Blinding light. Visual ecstasy.

Mostly Nothing are back with their new EP “Somewhere Else”. Following the release of the singles “Supernova”and “Into Nonexistence”, the one-many-army band continues their creative journey through time, space and an endless quest to self-understanding, which culminates in a genre-defying set of songs ranging from classical to heavy metal.
Inspired by the likes of Haken, David Maxim Micic, Plini or Native Construct, Mostly Nothing present an exciting novel strand of instrumental sound, created in the musical laboratory of Portuguese multi-instrumentalist and composer Sérgio Castro, who performed, mixed and mastered all the music in the EP (except for the drums in “Into Nonexistence”, played by Daniel Rodrigues).
The artist behind Mostly Nothing describes his music as an attempt at mixing the ideas and philosophy of modern progressive metal and rock music with his background as a classically trained musician. In his own words – “I tried my best to annoy easygoing listeners with random heaviness and metalheads with pretty lullabies”. Whereas the first two albums — “Dark ~ Light” and their debut “Short Stories” — were largely born out of experimentation, “Somewhere Else” came into being after three months of carefully composing and arranging work, and displays full control of the voices that revealed themselves in past works. “Somewhere Else”was recorded between 2022 and 2023, at the artist’s bedroom studio in his hometown of Guimarães, in Portugal. The EP was released on all major platforms in March. To stay updated on further releases, stay tuned to Mostly Nothing’s Facebookand Instagram pages.
To celebrate and promote the forthcoming ‘The Journey Continues’ Tour this August & September, Big Big Train will be sharing videos of a couple of songs filmed on tour last year. The first of these is “The Florentine” which was recorded in September 2022 at The Boerderij in The Netherlands. You can see the video here:
Alberto Bravin says: “I was very pleased when we agreed last year that “The Florentine” should be on the set list for our shows last September. After all, what could be better for an Italian than singing about Leonardo da Vinci?! “The Florentine” is a wonderful song to sing and a perfect example of David Longdon’s songwriting genius. We’re very fortunate to have the song as part of the Big Big Train catalogue.
“Duetting at the start and end of “The Florentine,” with Nick D’Virgilio coming out from behind the drum kit, was fun. It has some great opportunities for ensemble playing as well as some showcasing some terrific solos – I really enjoyed being on stage watching Oskar Holldorff playing that keyboard solo and Rikard rocking out on the guitar solo every night. For the gig at the Boerderij we thought it would be interesting to have a camera on Rikard’s guitar too. I hope we will be playing “The Florentine” live many more times in the future.”
Nick D’Virgilio adds: “I loved singing with Alberto. Seeing the live film of us playing “The Florentine” at the legendary Boerderij venue in the Netherlands is so cool. It still amazes me that this was only our third show playing together with Alberto, Oskar, Clare Lindley and Dave Foster. Our performance may not be 100% perfect but we really rocked and it was very memorable – particularly for a Monday night!”
“Our Boerderij show was also the first time that we had played a standing venue since our Night Of The Prog gig back in 2018. The night had a different vibe to the shows we’ve done in seated theatres on previous tours and I’m really looking forward to us playing a mix of venues when we’re back out on the road in August and September this year.”
